Ontario's attorney general and environment minister are urging the federal government to not impose a "job-killing" carbon tax in this province, and warning they are already working on court challenges to fight the potential tax.

Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative party has already unveiled legislation to end the cap-and-trade program, which was brought in by the former Liberal government, however a number of questions remain about the cost of exiting the plan and what Ontario will do to fight climate change instead.

Attorney General Caroline Mulroney and Environment Minister Rod Phillips are providing more information about the changes at a 10 a.m. ET news conference.

The two are speaking from a podium bearing the slogan "Stop the carbon tax."

Exiting cap-and-trade opens up the possibility that the federal government will implement a carbon tax in Ontario. However, Ford has vowed to fight that imposition in court if it happens.

Environment Minister Rod Phillips urged the prime minister to scrap than plan.
