Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were on different continents as each collected trophies for their musical collaboration in 2018’s A Star Is Born. In Los Angeles, the pop singer took the stage at 61st annual Grammy Awards to accept the honor for Best Pop Duo/Group for the song “Shallow,” her duet with her director and costar.

“I wish Bradley was here right now,” she exclaimed for those who were wondering where Cooper was — which was in the U.K. sweeping up the BAFTA Awards earlier in the day for Best Original Music for ASIB. “I know he wants to be here. Bradley, I loved singing this song with you.”

Attendees had no idea a duet was in store when the actor appeared on stage. The two embraced and he followed Gaga to the piano. “I even got you in-ears,” she told Cooper of the monitors used during live stage performances. “I can’t hear anything,” he cracked.

Mother Monster paused after first thanking God in her speech, and then soon turned to one of the central topics of her film: addiction and mental illness. “I’m so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues and a lot of artists deal with that and we’ve got to take care of each other. So if you see somebody that’s hurting, don’t look away,” she told attendees. The speech may have jogged the memories of film fans and its famed (fictional) Grammys scene: Bradley Cooper’s character Jackson Maine, who suffers from depression and alcoholism, urinates on himself in a scene where Gaga’s Ally collects a Grammy for Best New Artist.

Bradley Cooper on Singing With Lady Gaga in Vegas, Prepping for Oscar Performance He might not be getting his own Las Vegas residency anytime soon, but Bradley Cooper sure looked like a pro on stage during “A Star Is Born” co-star Lady Gaga’s “Enigma” show. Cooper surprised a Vegas crowd last weekend when he joined Gaga for a performance of their hit “Shallow.” “I could have ran out of there at the last minute, especially after watching her whole show,” Cooper told Variety on the red carpet of the Directors Guild Awards. “The thing that I was blown away by was that it felt like it was a city stop on a tour. It didn’t feel like people were just sort of strolling in from the casino,” he added.
