Keanu Reeves graces the cover of the May issue of GQ in which he reflects on his career and how some of his decisions have landed him in "movie jail."

The 54-year-old actor has been in the movie industry for over three decades but it wasn't until recently that he started thinking about the future.

"I haven’t really thought about my career future, or what was going to happen, until really recently," Reeves tells GQ. "Probably my mid-40s."

He cheerfully admits that "death" brought on that line of thinking, before telling a story about the late Oscar-winning actor Anthony Quinn, whom Reeves worked with in 1995 on the film "A Walk in the Clouds".

Reeves recalls being struck by how often Quinn was on the phone checking in with his agent to see if he'd been booked for this or that. "Still hustling," says Reeves. "I was like, Whoa."

"We had to do this long shot. It's just he and I, walking down this vineyard." Reeves says that he asked Quinn, "Is it always going to be like this?" Quinn's answer? "Yes."

"There's this idea that, like, at some point you're going to be set," the "John Wick" star explains. "And then maybe there won't be so much working on working. It just struck me that this gentleman, this legend, at 80…[is still working].”

Reeves also reveals how turning down "Speed 2" to play Hamlet on stage in Winnipeg got him blacklisted by Fox for a decade. "I didn't work with [Fox] again until 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'," he says, referring to his timeout as 'movie jail'.
