Kyle Giersdorf: teenager becomes Fortnite's first-ever solo world champion Fortnite has wrapped its first-ever massive sporting event in New York's Arthur Ashe tennis stadium. It was anyone's game: It didn't matter how famous a player was nor what large organization was backing each member of the all-male playing field. Beating out other pros and famous streamers, Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf, 16, made a name for himself by dominating from the first round and ultimately taking home the $3 million grand prize for individual players. That's the largest-ever payout for a single player in an esports tournament.

Obviously the answer to the question of how many people play Fortnite is a lot. Really, really loads. Although, interestingly, there haven't actually been any official figures since March 2019. Given the new season's recent start and some big competitive Fortnite events, does that mean the numbers have gone down and no one want's to admit it yet?

Even if there has been a decrease there are still hundreds of millions of registered accounts and tens of millions of actives players. Games as big as Fortnite don't disappear over night. Fortnite Season 10 will be interesting as well as it's added some of the biggest changes to the game yet with new Fortnite Missions replacing the long standing Battle Pass challenges. Will those changes draw in player's or push them away? Only time will tell, so for now read up on everything we know about how many people play Fortnite.

Canadian teen Hayden Krueger wins $1.2M in Fortnite World Cup In the New York tennis stadium where the U.S. Open is played every summer, Fortnite players — many not old enough for a driver's licence — are competing for a $40 million prize pool in a first-of-its-kind tournament. Like many professional sports, video game competition is dubbed the World Cup. Like many professional athletes, the competitors warm up, train and scrutinize their strengths and weaknesses for hours a day. "In football and basketball, they'll go over film of their game," said Canadian contestant Hayden Krueger, 17. "So every night, we'll do like an hour of film.

More specifically, 78.3 million people played " Fortnite " last month. That makes August the biggest month ever for the cartoonish, surrealist shooter. And now, just one year after Battle Royale hit " Fortnite ," more people are playing it monthly than there are people living in Drake's home country

How many people play Fortnite?

The big number you'll see mentioned is that Fortnite has 250 million players in total as of March 2019. That's a count of every registered account though, which probably includes a few inactive accounts. In terms of who's actually playing, then the highest number of players active in a month so far is 78.3 million, recorded in August 2018.

Given that the 250 million registered accounts is up 50 million from the 200 million recorded at the end of 2018, that's a pretty healthy growth for barely three months. For comparison rival game Apex Legends hit 50 million players in its first month (between February and March) which means roughly 18 months after it was released Fortnite's battle royale mode can still match a launches for growth.

This Fortnite World Cup Winner Is 16 and $3 Million Richer Some teenagers make extra cash by mowing lawns or babysitting. But 16-year-old Kyle Giersdorf of Pennsylvania put them all to shame by winning $3 million playing Fortnite. Kyle, who plays Fortnite Battle Royale online as “Bugha,” beat out 99 other players on Sunday to win the solo competition at the inaugural Fortnite World Cup, held at the U.S.T.A. Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The status of that venue — best known for hosting the world’s top tennis players at the United States Open, which will begin next month — was testament to the incredible popularity of Fortnite, a game that allows as many as 100 players to meet on a virtual island and battle it ou

The more popular a game is, the more frequent the amount of players online can change as new players start and others end their gaming session. The amount of active players you see above is the closest estimate of how many people are playing Fortnite at this moment all over the world in

So how many people actually play Fortnite and for how long will the player count continue to grow? It can be difficult to track how many players Fortnite has accumulated, particularly compared to something like PUBG which is played through Steam on PC.

The most interesting statistic though has to be the 10.8 million concurrent players that logged on for the in-game live Marshmello concert. 10.8 million people all playing Fortnite at once is an incredible number. The original battle royale, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, currently clock in around 900k concurrents on Steam on average and has hit a little over 3 million on a good day. That's PC only admittedly, not console or mobile, but it's unlikely rounding those up would hit 10 million. Fortnite is big people, and it's unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon. Even if it started dying tomorrow it would months if not years to shed enough player base to be considered failing.

Vince Carter still plans to play another season but will not chase ring.
The ageless wonder known as Vince Carter still intends to lace them up for another year, but he won’t be selling out to do it. In an interview with The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand published Thursday, the 42-year-old, who remains unsigned, said that his desire to play another season has not changed. “We’re still working on it,” he said. “In the pecking order, I know where I fall.” But when confronted with the idea of chasing a ring, which he has yet to win in 21 NBA seasons, Carter was adamant that he would not do so if it meant that would not be able to be an active part of the rotation. “Not my thing,” the eight-time All-Star said. “Just not my thing.
