  Dolly Parton Celebrates 50 Years as Grand Ole Opry Member: 'It's a Humbling Experience' Dolly Parton, clad in a form-fitting pantsuit adorned with gold sequins, celebrated 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night (Oct. 12) with two sold-out performances at the revered Nashville venue. Ahead of her two 30-minute sets, artists on the bill -- including Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith and Candi Carpenter, among others -- honored the country legend by covering her songs. Before Parton stepped into the Opry’s historic wooden circle, she spoke with Billboard and other media outlets about her six-decades performing there as well as the early days she spent dreaming of being invited to the famed stage.

Parton, 73, rarely reveals her arm tattoos in public. The "9 to 5" singer spoke with Robin Robert on "Good Morning America" about the history behind her ink.

"I got them to cover scars or things," Parton shared. "If I have to get a scar for any reason, I never can kind of get rid of that purple look. So I thought, 'Well, I'm going to kind of decorate these with some flowers or little butterflies or whatever.'"

This is not the first time Parton has talked about her tattoos. In 2014, she rejected rumours that she has "snake tattoos" all over her body.
