Olympic champion Anna Veith declared her retirement from active skiing on Saturday. "I am happy that I can end my career healthy and successful today," said Austria's most successful ski racer in an ÖSV broadcast. "I lived my childhood dream. Now is the time to stop."
The 2014 Olympic champion, three-time world champion and two-time overall World Cup winner won everything that is possible in skiing. "I am very proud of what I have achieved," said Veith. "But I also know how much effort and deprivation it took. My passion for the Sport has always driven me, I gave everything and the hard work was always rewarded," emphasized the Salzburg native.

In a column published on the site of Vogue, the popess of fashion wonders about the consequences of the coronavirus crisis. And take this opportunity to attack the American president. Always ahead of a trend, always looking to the next day: this is how Anna Wintour won her reputation as an empress of fashion. And it is in this way that it approaches, today, the pandemic of coronavirus .
But this is now different. "Last winter I did everything I could to come back and find trust, but I just couldn't get where I wanted to go." That is why Veith has found the willingness to draw the line. "In my life, the Sport was the absolute number one for so many years. I was allowed to do what I really wanted and loved most. I appreciate that very much, but now is the right time for me to stop."
The greatest success from the point of view of the 30-year-old is the one that has moved her the most: "Without a doubt, the most emotional moment was the silver medal at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. After my first serious injury in 2015, nobody knew whether it will be possible to go skiing like I did before. This medal was proof and reward for the hard work, "recalls the triple Austrian athlete of the year.

After a duel with Maze "a special victory for me"
"Another amazing moment that I will remember for my whole life was the World Cup final in Meribel, where I prevailed against Tina Maze in the overall World Cup at the last second After weeks of fighting at the highest level, this was a very special victory for me. A victory in the overall World Cup is something every skier has dreamed of since his youth. It is said that you are the best Season was better than you. It's a special feeling. " Veith is now looking forward to her private life. Family planning will also play a role in the future, but not immediately. "Manuel and I would like to have our own family, but we don't have such a stress and enjoy the time for ourselves," she said in an ORF interview with Alexandra Meißnitzer.Future plans not yet concrete
Veith cannot yet give a concrete answer to what she is doing. "I ask myself every day that there is still nothing concrete." She wants to pursue her values, support the youth and "pass on my experiences". But she couldn't imagine a coaching job in the classic sense. She also wants to use the time to take root at home, but would like to "talk to individual athletes about current events".
Veith is looking forward to her private life and what's to come: "I feel liberated, a certain burden has already fallen off my shoulders," she said after the announcement. "All my life I could call ski racing my job. I have never done anything else. I have never loved anything else so much. The smell of fresh snow. The early morning hours on the glacier. The team. I will miss all of that. I don’t know what’s coming, but I’m looking forward to it. "More on MSN
