Former German bobsleigh driver Richard Adjei († 37), who won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2010 Olympic Games, died on Monday (October 26th). This was announced by his brother Jason in an emotional Facebook post.

"Unfortunately Richard Adjei passed away last night at the age of 37 in the arms of his wife and me", wrote Jason Adjei in his post on Tuesday (October 27th). Under a black and white picture of his brother and his life data, Jason writes: "His wife gave him all the love in the world on his last journey." It is not yet known what Richard Adjei died of. Born in Düsseldorf, he was not alone in his last hours, as his brother explains: "Part of the family was also able to say goodbye to him."

Born in Düsseldorf, Adjei played as a linebacker in the NFL Europe for Rhein Fire in his hometown from 2004 to 2006 before he discovered winter sports for himself. In 2010 he won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver with pilot Thomas Florschütz. In 2011 he won the European Championship and World Championship titles with pilot Manuel Machata in a four.
