Together with Daniel Snaddon, the directing duo made it into the shortlist of ten Oscar candidates with the animated film "The Snail and the Whale". According to the Oscar Academy, the candidates were selected from a pool of 96 short films. A committee will now nominate five candidates for the final round. The Oscar nominations will be announced on March 15th and the trophies will be awarded on April 25th.

"The Snail and the Whale", based on the template by the British children's book author Julia Donaldson (English title: The Snail and the Humpback Whale), revolves around the shared adventure of befriended animals. The animated film was co-produced by the British company Magic Light Pictures.

Lang, a graduate of the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, had previously been nominated twice for a short film Oscar: in 2011 together with Jakob Schuh for “The Gruffalo”, in 2014 with Jan Lachauer for “Room on the Broom” . At the Academy Awards, the animators went away empty-handed.
