Apart from the power-packed performance by the stellar star cast, Mirzapur is also winning accolades for its crisp and relatable writing. The Amazon Prime original has been penned by Puneet Krishna and Karan Set in a world of drugs, guns and lawlessness, Mirzapur stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey and Divyendu Sharma in the lead roles. EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has signed up Puneet Krishna, the rising Indian showrunner and writer, to exclusively create his next two series for the platform.

Details on the shows are being kept under wraps at present, beyond the projects being a dark comedy and a drama respectively. They are both expected to be in production by early 2022.

Krishna made his name on a pair of Amazon series. He co-created and was showrunner and lead writer on Mirzapur, the popular crime show from Excel Entertainment that was renewed for a third season by the streamer back in November. Prior to then, he was a writer on Amazon’s first original series in India, Inside Edge. His debut was another Excel Entertainment project, the satire Bangistan, which he co-wrote.

Writer and director of Mirzapur 2 , Puneet Krishna , has whole-heartedly apologised for “inadvertently hurting” the sentiments of the 81-year-old writer with their depiction of his work. The author had asked for an explanation and an apology from the makers, failing which he would take legal action. However, the creators of Mirzapur 2 soon admitted their mistake and posted an official statement on the Twitter handle of Excel Entertainment.
