Randall Park to Make Directorial Debut on Dramedy 'Shortcomings' for Roadside Attractions
Randall Park, the "Fresh Off the Boat," "WandaVision" and "Always Be My Maybe" star, will make his directorial debut for Roadside Attractions on a comedic drama called "Shortcomings." "Shortcomings" is based on the 2007 graphic novel by Adrian Tomine, the celebrated cartoonist and illustrator for The New Yorker and of the graphic memoir "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist." Tomine will also adapt the screenplay and executive produce the film adaptation, which Park said will be updated to modern day.
EXCLUSIVE: MRC Film, through its-led romance label, has optioned feature rights to the bestselling novel The Return. Perhaps this sparks the return of romantic films, a genre that the author has contributed to with 11 filmed novel adaptations that include The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, Nights in Rodanthe and Dear John. The Notebook is being adapted into a musical with music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson.

Five senior executives have abruptly quit Dick Clark Productions, the company behind the Golden Globes and the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards, amid complaints of what one insider called a "toxic culture," TheWrap has learned. In the past few weeks, the production company has seen an exodus of top executives, including Linda Gierahn, executive vice president of production; Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programming and development; Amy Pfister, vice president of communications; Rika Camizianos, VP of creative content and postproduction — brand, marketing and digital strategy; and Ben Roy, vic development.
The novel, which spent 22 weeks on the bestseller lists, focuses on an injured army doctor who moves into his late grandfather’s home in New Bern, NC, where he encounters two women whose secrets will change the course of his life.
Cantillon, a longtime Sony Pictures exec who produced films there for several years,to start a romance-themed film label. She is in pre-production on Persuasion, which has Dakota Johnson attached at Netflix, as well as adaptations of the novels 28 Summers, Photos of You, and Rosie’s Travelling Tea Shop.

Disney’s live-action take on the popular theme park ride “Jungle Cruise” will debut in theatres and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 30. Filmed in 2019, the movie’s 2020 release was postponed due to the pandemic. “Jungle Cruise” tells the story of river guide Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) who is hired by Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) to guide her downriver on his ramshackle boat on her quest to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities and power to change the future of medicine.
