Washington, September 15 (Reuters) - US President Joe Biden proposed last week to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping a top-to-head top without reaching an agreement, reported on Tuesday the Financial Times.
The White House denied the newspaper statements. "This report is not accurate. Final point," said Jake Sullivan, the National Security Councilor of President Joe Biden.
The two leaders spoke last Thursday by phone, for the first time in seven months.
According to Financial Times, Xi Jinping did not accept Joe Biden's offer and insisted that Washington adopts a less vehement tone to Beijing.

"Apparently, Xi Jinping suggested that the employee's tone and atmosphere of the relationship between the two countries should first be improved," said Reuters a source from the record.
The Embassy of China in Washington did not immediately respond to a comment request.
The Financial Times cites one of its sources that Joe Biden proposed a summit as one of the many follow-up opportunities with Xi Jinping, and that he did not expect to receive an answer immediately.
The White House thinks that if Xi Jinping did not accept the idea of a summit, it is partly due to the concerns about the coronavirus epidemic, adds the newspaper, citing an American official. (Report David Brunnstrom and Shubham Kalia; French version Camille Raynaud)
