Alec Baldwin may be positioning himself for a 2020 presidential race against the man he plays on TV.

In an interview with Howard Stern, the "30 Rock" star said that he could "1,000 per cent" beat Donald Trump if he ran for president in 2020.

“If I ran for president, I would win. Hands down, I would win," Baldwin stated after Stern said he should put himself forward as the Democratic nominee. “It would be the funniest, most exciting, craziest campaign.”

On one hand , oh God, isn’t the next presidential election going to be insane enough? On the other hand , Donald Trump facing off against longtime foe Alec Baldwin in character as Donald Trump in a race to the White House does feel like the natural next chapter in American history.

The 2020 presidential race might just be a face-off between Donald Trump and the man who plays him on TV. Alec Baldwin — who has portrayed POTUS on Saturday Night Live since 2016 — said in an interview with Howard Stern on Monday that if he ran for president , he could unseat Trump.

Before the Emmy Award-winning actor got too carried away, he remembered he has to present "Match Game," ABC's summer game show. The King of All Media joked back and forth with Baldwin about his summer gig and whether it would clash with a presidential campaign.

Baldwin then took a more serious approach to the idea, rejecting Stern's assertion that he is "the hope of the Democratic party."

"I’m only saying that [about running for president] because people really don’t have a sense of who is gonna come up. I mean, somebody great is gonna come up, I hope. But the only reason I say it is because I’d love to run for that kind of position -- to have things be very common sense. There’s so many things this country needs to do that are so obvious."

It's not the first time the 60-year-old actor has talked about running for president. He told an audience at George Washington University last year that he thinks he'd make a "good president," adding that he'd love to run for office but isn't sure about the practicalities with his lifestyle and children.
