Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called on the EU partners to "rigorous solidarity" in the Corona crisis. In order not to fail as a union in the pandemic, he believes that the EU must now organize a "war economy", wrote Sánchez in an article for "faz.net".
Meanwhile, half of the ten Formula 1 teams have sent some of their employees to work short-time. After McLaren, Williams, Racing Point and Alfa Romeo, Renault has now also taken this expected step. Both the plant in Enstone (Great Britain) and the engine factory in Viry, France, are affected. Both locations are currently in the "shutdown".
"The crisis we have been facing for a few weeks has never been there before," says a Renault statement. As a result, both Enstone and Viry were sent on the FIA's summer break (which has been brought forward and extended this year) from March 30 to May 3. Short-time work was also introduced in Viry on April 6.
Couriers also suffer from Corona crisis

Despite closed shops, the Corona crisis has an overall negative impact on the parcel and courier industry. «The sub-sectors are all very badly affected. On average, much more is lost than is added, »says Andreas Schumann, chairman of the Federal Association of Courier Express Post Services (BdKEP).
The measure initially applies for twelve weeks, it is said. However, the period could be shortened or extended. That depends on how the corona crisis will develop in the coming weeks. "The decision was made after consulting representatives of the workforce," Renault said. The aim is to "protect the company and its employees."
All activities in Viry that have nothing to do with Formula 1 and are therefore not subject to the shutdown should continue "depending on the state of health and the needs of the company". This applies, for example, to Formula E. Meanwhile, Enstone is relying on the short-time work program of the British government.
80 percent of the income is covered by the state. The upper limit is actually £ 2,500 per month, but Renault assures its employees that if in doubt they will pay the shortfall themselves in order to get at least the 80 percent mentioned. The measure should apply until May 31st, but here too one is dependent on the "development of the situation".
At the same time, it is announced that employees who are still active, for example at the management level, will also receive a salary cut. Cyril Abiteboul explains that the impact of the crisis on sport cannot yet be assessed. "So we have to do everything we can to get through this long period of uncertainty and inactivity as much as possible," said the team leader.
It is about protecting the entire team "that we have built over the past four years," explains Abiteboul. In addition to the five teams mentioned at the beginning, Formula 1 itself has already sent some of its employees on short-time work.
