Elliott: Amari Cooper was Cowboys' 'missing piece'

Elliott: Amari Cooper was Cowboys' 'missing piece' The Dallas Cowboys paid a steep price to acquire Amari Cooper, shipping out a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for the No. 1 receiver. Three games into his Cowboys career, Cooper is looking worth the risk. The wideout's numbers aren't spectacular - 14 catches for 169 yards and one touchdown - but Dallas has gone 2-1 with him in the lineup, and Ezekiel Elliott has suddenly found room to run thanks to the passing threat. "It seems like he kind of was the missing piece, just because when he got here this offense started rolling," Elliott said, according to Clarence E. Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "It's great having him. He's a phenomenal player.

The Ottawa & Belleville Senators have announced a trade today with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, acquiring forward Tobias Lindberg and defenceman Stefan Elliott. Outgoing are also a forward-defence combo, with Ben Sexton and Macoy Erkamps headed to the Penguins organization.

If Tobias Lindberg’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he has a long history with the Senators organization. Originally drafted by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, he quickly rose up their prospect rankings, all the way to #11 on our 2015 Top 25 Under 25 list after winning the Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals. During his rookie pro season with Binghamton, however, he was traded to Toronto as a part of the large package that brought Dion Phaneuf to Ottawa.

After signing with the Vegas Golden Knights a year later, Lindberg was even more recently included in a Sens trade, serving as a chip-in going from Vegas to Pittsburgh during the Derick Brassard three-way deal. If you also count the fact that the Sens traded for Lindberg’s draft rights as part of the 2013 Ben Bishop trade, this will be Ottawa’s fourth time involving Lindberg in one of their deals.

Stefan Elliott (born January 30, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing with the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL)

The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenceman Stefan Elliott and forward Tobias Lindberg from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Macoy Erkamps and forward Ben Sexton. Elliott and Lindberg will report to the American Hockey League’s Belleville Senators .

As a 23-year-old right-winger, he currently has six points in fifteen games on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He makes $650,000 in the NHL, and $80,000 in the AHL, on a contract that expires after this season. He will be a restricted free agent.

The other piece the Sens receive is Stefan Elliott, who at 27 years old, comes with more playing experience. He has 84 NHL games under his belt between Colorado, Arizona and Nashville, although his last two seasons have been spent playing in Europe and the Olympics. He has eight points in 20 games so far this season in the AHL, leading the team in ice time playing approximately 15:41 per game at 5v5. His NHL salary of $650,000 is the same as Lindberg, although his AHL salary is higher at $225,000. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Outgoing for Belleville are two players that haven’t quite lived up to expectations, in Ben Sexton and Macoy Erkamps. Sexton, the son of former Sens executive Randy Sexton, was signed in the 2017 off-season with the hopes of providing some top six offence. And while he delivered just that in his first season, he has yet to find the back of the net in 2018-19, with nine assists in 17 games. The injuries haven’t helped, however, as he was limited to only 30 games last year, and missed this season’s first three weeks. An Ottawa native, he was a well-respected member in the Belleville community, donning the ‘A’ on his jersey. His NHL salary is the highest in the trade at $725,000, although he’s making $165,000 in the AHL.

Confirmed Trade : [PIT/OTT] Stefan Elliott and Tobias Lindberg for Macoy Erkamps and Ben Sexton. I don’t know anything about anyone in this trade . Are we sure all four guys aren’t made up? I remember Stefan Elliot when he was an Avs’ prospect. He was supposed to be pretty good

The final player, Macoy Erkamps, has fallen to levels that the Sens hadn’t foreseen when they signed him in 2016. He exploded during his final WHL season playing on a pair with Ivan Provorov, then proceeded to barely crack the B-Sens’ roster for the next three seasons. At 23 years old, he has one goal and six points in 21 games, playing in the ECHL for the Brampton Beast.

Belleville takes to the ice next this weekend, playing back-to-back-to-back games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Sens and Penguins have no games this season where they’re scheduled to face each other.

Update: To complete the transaction, the Senators later traded forward Ryan Scarfo to the Penguins for future considerations. Scarfo, a 24-year-old forward, was signed as a free agent out of Union College this past season. He’s on a minor league-only contract, splitting time between the AHL and ECHL.
