Trading a top defensive prospect may be necessary for the Canadiens

Trading a top defensive prospect may be necessary for the Canadiens The Canadiens have quality right-shot defencemen and a weak left side. This off-season, a move could be made to help balance them out. When one looks at the Montreal Canadiens’ depth chart, there is one weakness that jumps out, and it’s nothing new to those who follow the team: the left side of the defence is presently weak, and the pipeline offers no hint of immediate relief. Victor Mete formed a pair with Shea Weber this season, though with mixed success. Mete’s speed allowed him to backcheck effectively, and he had a good breakout game. Unfortunately, he doesn’t add much offensive production.

How Phil Kessel’s partial no trade clause makes him so difficult for the Pittsburgh Penguins to trade If the Pens wanted to trade Kessel, his 23 (23!!!) team no trade list makes it a tough challenge, and even more so with the teams he picks to allow a trade to Back in 2015 when trade rumors were swirling around Phil Kessel, our Toronto Maple Leafs blog Pension Plan Puppets took a look at his revealed no-trade list as dug up by the venerable Bob McKenzie. Due to his contract, Kessel can only be traded to eight teams of his choosing without his approval.

One tough debut. One wild season. For Canucks' DiPietro, the ride's just starting

One tough debut. One wild season. For Canucks' DiPietro, the ride's just starting The night the San Jose Sharks shot seven pucks past Michael DiPietro, his phone wouldn't stop pinging with messages of consolation. The Vancouver Canucks prospect got lit up in his surprise NHL debut at age 19. Without a healthy backup goalie available, he was stranded in the crease for all 60 minutes of what became a 7-2 loss. "You don't see many of those in the Ontario Hockey League," Sportsnet color commentator John Garrett said on the Canucks' TV broadcast after Evander Kane scored San Jose's fourth goal on a nasty top-shelf wrister. DiPietro's family and friends were sad and sorry about the barrage to which he'd been subjected.
