The Blues dispensed with the depleted San Jose Sharks in Game 6 Tuesday, striking early and holding on for their fourth victory of the third-round series. In doing so, Vladimir Tarasenko and Co. punched their ticket to the final round, where they’ll meet the Eastern champion Boston Bruins.
St. Louis kicked off their victory lap early, with veteran David Perron tipping home the opening tally just 1:32 into the game. They didn’t slow down from there, allowing just one Sharks goal (from Dylan Gambrell) while pouring in three more of their own (courtesy of Brayden Schenn, Tyler Bozak and Ivan Barbashev) en route to an easy Game 6 win.
Blues move to brink of Cup final with 5-0 win over Sharks
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Vladimir Tarasenko scored on a penalty shot and Jaden Schwartz added the first of his three goals during a dominant second period that carried St. Louis to the brink of its first trip to the Stanley Cup Final in nearly a half-century, sending the Blues to a 5-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday in Game 5 of the Western Conference final. St. Louis used a relentless forecheck to take control of the game and series in the second period, getting the two goals and outshooting the beleaguered Sharks 20-6 during the frame.
The Blues earned Stanley Cup Final berths in each of their first three seasons in the league, but were swept out of all three. Their most recent run of note came in 2016, when St. Louis and San Jose similarly faced off in the Conference Final.
The Sharks claimed that 2016 series 4-2. The Blues returned the favour this time around.
More to come.

Karlsson, traded from Ottawa to San Jose ahead of this season, is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents on the market.
Ward nets two in Game 6 to send Sharks to Cup Final
