Pirates president called MLB demanding explanation for Musgrove's ejection Joe Musgrove felt wronged by his ejection from Monday's game, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are taking up his cause. Pirates president Frank Coonelly was one of several members of the organization to contact Joe Torre - MLB's chief baseball officer and the person in charge of on-field discipline - to protest the handling of Musgrove's ejection, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The pitcher was tossed after a first-inning benches-clearing incident with the Atlanta Braves that began when Musgrove hit Josh Donaldson with a pitch. No punches were thrown, but umpires still issued three total ejections.

Musgrove wasn't disciplined further, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

"We've had no beef in the past until now," Musgrove said following the game. "For him to act that way and I did nothing but stand my ground. I hit him with the pitch and he stared at me and tried to intimidate me and I'm not going to let that happen."

On Tuesday morning, Pirates brass contacted the league office to dispute Musgrove's ejection, stating the right-hander didn't start the brawl.

"This is not right," team president Frank Coonelly said. "A man has to be able to defend himself when he's getting bull-rushed by someone who started a staring contest, didn't like the fact that the pitcher stared back at him in response to his staring, then tosses aside teammates to get to him."

Following the game, home plate umpire Brian Gorman justified his ejection of Musgrove, stating the pitcher tossing his glove and hat while approaching Donaldson made him "an aggressor in a brawl."

Report: KD wasn't 'anywhere close to 100 percent' prior to Game 5.
As the basketball world awaits the official word on Kevin Durant's lower right leg injury - which some around the team reportedly expect to be a torn Achilles tendon - the process behind clearing the Golden State Warriors star for Game 5 has come under increased scrutiny. Despite being cleared to play in Toronto, Durant "was not anywhere close to 100 percent," sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes. Durant had been out since May 8 due to a sprained right calf. He only practiced with his teammates for the first time on Sunday, barely more than 24 hours before Monday night's Game 5.
