Report: Durant traveling to New York for Achilles evaluation Kevin Durant is traveling to New York on Tuesday for a doctor's evaluation on his injured right Achilles tendon, league sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania. The Golden State Warriors stayed overnight in Toronto following the Game 5 victory over the Raptors in which Durant was injured. The Warriors said he was slated to undergo an MRI on his right leg Tuesday, and the team reportedly believes the results will confirm a torn right Achilles tendon. Durant suffered the non-contact injury early in the second quarter of Game 5 after playing 12 of 14 minutes.

Ahead of a monster period in NBA free agency for the Knicks, Kevin Durant will be available after reportedly opting out of his deal with the Warriors .

The Kevin Durant sweepstakes are officially set to begin.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Durant has informed the team that he will opt out of his current contract with the Warriors, which would have earned him $31.5 million for next season.

This means the Knicks will get their shot at pitching Durant to come to New York when NBA free agency commences on June 30 at 6 p.m. ET. Even though Durant, who turns 31 in September, is expected to miss all of next season with a torn Achilles, he will likely receive multiple long-term contract offers in free agency at around $38 million annually.
