Jones prepared for Zeke to miss games, wants him back for playoffs

Jones prepared for Zeke to miss games, wants him back for playoffs On Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had nothing new to report in regards to contract negotiations with holdout Ezekiel Elliott. And with the regular-season opener less than two weeks away, Jones appeared to accept the fact that his team could be without its Pro Bowl running back. "We've got a marathon here. We want Zeke when we get to the playoffs. We want Zeke when we're in the dog days of the season," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. Jones added that the Cowboys are prepared to move forward without Elliott. "We may very well play without a player that's not coming in on his contract," he said.

Ezekiel Elliott is leaving Mexico and flying to the Dallas area in case a contract extension with the Cowboys gets worked out, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

There is no deal for Elliott to sign yet, and there are still obstacles in negotiations with the franchise, according to Rapoport.

Elliott set up shop in Cabo, Mexico, at the beginning of training camp and stayed there throughout the preseason while holding out for a new contract.

It's unclear whether the Cowboys will have their two-time rushing champion when they open the regular season Sunday versus the New York Giants.

Report: Benning's extension with Canucks is for 3 years

Report: Benning's extension with Canucks is for 3 years The Vancouver Canucks have signed general manager Jim Benning to a three-year contract extension, reports Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre. A report of Benning's extension surfaced on Friday but the length was unknown at the time. Benning was heading into the final year of his previous deal, so the extension will keep him in Vancouver through the 2022-23 season. The Canucks made the postseason in Benning's first year at the helm during the 2014-15 campaign, but they've missed the playoffs in the four years since. Benning is responsible for rebuilding the organization's farm system by drafting the likes of Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, and Quinn Hughes.

" Zeke was just standing there arms folded chilling feeling the crowd. Then I seen DJ getting loud toward the vicinity of Zeke and then I see an overhand right come over the back of Zeke shoulder that landed square in DTrain's face and he went to sleep. No arrests have been made yet in this case .

"We did not feel like the judge did justice for all the work the staff did ," Johnstone, who has been Ezekiel " Zeke " Smith described the way he felt during elementary school in Dallas as "powerless." "It's Tuesday - on Tuesday, you better be preparing with the people you've got available to you for Sunday," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told a local radio station shortly before the news of Elliott's travel plan broke, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

"We're working with the people that we have out here now and the ones we have that we know are going to be on the field. That's how we're preparing. It will be great - will be and would be great - if before a short period of time passes that Zeke would be in that group. But we'll see how today goes. We'll see how tomorrow goes. We'll see how the ensuing hours pan out."

Elliott has two years left on his rookie deal.
