© Troy Fleece University of Regina Rams quarterback Bryden O'Flaherty made his first Canada West start Friday against the UBC Thunderbirds at Mosaic Stadium. The University of Regina Rams’ losing streak swelled to five games Friday when they lost 33-28 to the UBC Thunderbirds in Canada West football action at Mosaic Stadium.
In the waning seconds, the Rams drove down to UBC’s 18-yard line before James Vause intercepted rookie quarterback Bryden O’Flaherty in the end zone.
Regina trailed 23-6 midway through the third quarter before scoring two rapid-fire touchdowns — on a three-yard run by Semba Mbasela (who rushed for 135 yards) and an 11-yard interception return by defensive lineman Brandon McKimmon.

Regina’s other touchdown came on a 21-yard pass from O’Flaherty to Kyle Moortgat.
Friday’s outcome left the Rams and UBC with 1-5 records. Although the Thunderbirds have been eliminated from playoff contention, the Rams still have a glimmer of hope.
They need to win each of their final two regular-season games — Oct. 19 against the host University of Alberta Golden Bears and Oct. 25 against the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons — and get some help along the way.
Manitoba (3-3) can lock down a playoff spot by defeating the visiting University of Calgary Dinos (4-1) on Oct. 19. If Calgary wins that game, Regina would need to defeat Manitoba by at least two points in the season finale to claim the conference’s fourth and final post-season berth.
