Sports Raptors exercise two-way option on Canadian forward Oshae Brissett
Terence Davis has fan-favourite potential, Pascal Siakam in ‘mid-season form’ and other takeaways from Raptors’ preseason opener
Toronto Raptors fans like nothing more than to root for an underdog, to appreciate an unheralded player who possesses a solid work ethic, some basketball promise and an “I’ll show them” mentality. It’s early, but it looks like Terence Davis is going to fill that role this season. The undrafted rookie, fighting for a spot in the rotation, was among the most pleasant surprises early Tuesday morning as Toronto posted a come-from-behind 134-129 victory over the Houston Rockets. It wasn’t Davis’ stats — eight points, five assists in about 11 minutes — that stood out, nor was it an impressive dunk he threw down in the second half.
The Toronto Raptors have exercised the two-way player conversion option on Canadian forward Oshae Brissett‘s contract.
Brissett, 21, signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Raptors after being passed over in June’s NBA draft.
The Mississauga, Ont., native averaged 3.5 points, two rebounds and 10.2 minutes in four pre-season games with the Raptors.
Brissett turned pro after two NCAA seasons at Syracuse, where he averaged 13.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 35.7 minutes over 71 career games. He has also represented Canada on the international stage, although a knee injury kept him from participating in September’s FIBA World Cup.
With this two-way conversion, the Raptors’ roster currently stands at the maximum of 15 players and one two-way contract. They’ll be able to add one more two-way contract to their roster if they so desire.
The team opens the 2019-20 season Tuesday at home against the New Orleans Pelicans.
