The San Diego Padres have hired Jayce Tingler as their next manager, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

San Diego has not confirmed the hiring.

The 38-year-old got the job over Atlanta Braves third-base coach Ron Washington, who was reportedly a finalist for the job, according to Kevin McAlpin of Brave Radio Network.

Tingler is currently managing winter ball in the Dominican Republic, reports Passan, who adds that the manager being bilingual should benefit a Padres organization loaded with international prospects.

Prior to landing with San Diego, Tingler was the major-league player development field coordinator for the Texas Rangers. He has close ties to Padres general manager A.J. Preller, according to The Athletic's Dennis Lin.
