  Leafs loan Rasmus Sandin to AHL Marlies, recall Kevin Gravel Maple Leafs defenceman Rasmus Sandin is headed back to the Toronto Marlies after six games in the NHL. The Leafs announced Monday they were loaning the 19-year-old to their AHL affiliate, while recalling defenceman Kevin Gravel. Sandin showed tremendous promise in training camp, earning more and more ice time over the preseason until the coaching staff made the decision to keep him on the season-opening roster. Sandin impressed at the outset of the regular season, showcasing his speed, puck movement and hockey sense but he began to lose net battles in games against St. Louis, Tampa and Detroit.

Travis Dermott said today that he is medically cleared to return to the Maple Leafs.

In order to activate Travis Dermott off of IR, the Leafs need to make a roster space on the 23-man roster. They also need enough space in the LTIR relief pool to cover his cap hit as he comes off LTIR.

  Report: Leafs looking to trade Petan The Toronto Maple Leafs are apparently looking to move forward Nic Petan, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on "Saturday Headlines."With defenseman Travis Dermott and forward Zach Hyman nearing respective returns from injured reserve, the club will need to clear players off its roster to become cap compliant.

Dermott did his best Saturday, prior to his return to the Leafs’ lineup against Ottawa, to shrug it all off. “People are going to say what they want to say, whether it’s a GM or a fan on the street,” Dermott said. “We worry about our room and care about what the people in here say.” Dermott says the Leafs’

Travis Dermott would head right for the locker room after getting knocked to the ice by Brad Malone. “We feel really good about our depth on defence,” general manager Kyle Dubas said as Monday’s trade deadline passed without another addition to the blue line .

The choice is between Kevin Gravel, still waiver exempt, and on the roster for only a few days since Rasmus Sandin was sent down, and Martin Marincin. The other option open is to remove the only extra forward currently, Nic Petan.

Gravel has appeared in three games, playing 10:21 per game, and Marincin in six, playing 9:55. It’s safe to say, neither player made a case for a roster spot even without Dermott in the lineup.

Judging by the practice lines today (with Morgan Rielly taking a maintenance day and Gravel acting as a placeholder), Zach Hyman isn’t yet ready to return.
