New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur announced Wednesday that quarterback Daniel Jones is in a walking boot with a "moderate high ankle sprain" and is unlikely to play against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Newsday's Tom Rock.

Shurmur added "it will very likely be Eli (Manning)" starting on Monday Night Football as a result.

"I've missed being part of the action," Manning told reporters. "It felt good to be out there today (at practice). I hadn't thought about playing in a game, just taking it one game at a time, not making any decisions about the future while living in the present."

Alberta aiming to end 500 nursing jobs over 3 years; nurses call it 'betrayal'

Alberta aiming to end 500 nursing jobs over 3 years; nurses call it 'betrayal' EDMONTON — Alberta's nurses union says the province's intention to eliminate 500 full-time nursing positions over the next three years has left them feeling betrayed. David Harrigan, a labour negotiator with the United Nurses of Alberta, says that means at least 750 nurses will be out of work once job-sharing is factored in. Harrigan notes Premier Jason Kenney ran on a platform of reducing spending but keeping front-line services intact. Harrigan says fewer nurses will translate into longer waits for care,  increased privatization and upfront costs to patients.

Jones hurt his ankle in New York's Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The rookie still felt soreness on Tuesday, which led to further testing.

The head coach said the injury is "similar but not as severe" as the one Saquon Barkley labored through earlier this season while missing three games, according to Rock.

Shurmur added that Jones won't need surgery, but said if the game was being played Thursday or Friday, the 2019 first-round pick wouldn't be able to suit up.

Manning began the season as the Giants' starting quarterback, but he was benched in favor of Jones after two games. He's the franchise's all-time leader in wins, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

Manning throws 2 TDs, Barkley scores 2, Giants end long skid .
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning threw two touchdowns in what might have been his final home start for the Giants and New York snapped a franchise record-tying nine-game losing streak with a 36-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Saquon Barkley ran for 112 yards and scored two walk-in touchdowns and New York's much-maligned defence added a safety as the Giants (3-11) handed the Dolphins (3-11) their second loss in as many weeks at MetLife Stadium.
