Tiger declines millions, turns down Saudi International for 2nd straight year

Tiger declines millions, turns down Saudi International for 2nd straight year Tiger Woods declined a lucrative offer to play in the European Tour's Saudi International for the second straight year, according to ESPN's Bob Harig. "I just don't want to go over there," Tiger said. "It's a long way." Woods was offered an appearance fee of roughly $3 million each of the past two years from tournament organizers in Saudi Arabia. That still wasn't enough for the 15-time major winner to participate in the controversial event. However, Woods understands why players like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson would accept offers to make the trip to Saudi Arabia despite the political turmoil surrounding the nation.

Tiger Woods will end 2019 ranked No. 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to his fourth-place result at the Hero World Challenge, his highest year-end position in six years.

His rank could have been higher if he hadn't stalled out in the latter half of his final round. Woods held the solo lead with 11 holes remaining but couldn't get past the 14-under number. He ended the event four shots back of the winner, Henrik Stenson.

Two bogeys and a birdie on the par 5s plus one other bogey left him 2 over on that side and scuffling with Jordan Spieth and Tony Finau near the bottom of the board. I don't know if that was what I expected, but I wasn't necessarily surprised. Woods has a lot going on right now and didn't open this tournament very well last year when he only shot one of his four rounds in the 60s.
