Mitch Marner injury update: Toronto Maple Leafs forward returns to practice
The 22-year-old star skated with the Maple Leafs just 23 days after suffering a high-ankle sprain on Nov. 9.The team had initially indicated the 22-year-old star would be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks after his injury, putting him on the ice for practice one week earlier than expected. Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reported Monday that the earliest Marner is eligible to come off long-term injured reserve is Wednesday, Dec. 5 — meaning No. 16 will miss at least two more games before he takes the ice again for new Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe.

The Oilers host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday in a Hockey Night in Canada matchup at Forward Mitch Marner has been a welcomed return on the top line with John Tavares and Zach Hyman, recording a goal and four assists in four games since returning from injury on December 4.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tyson Barrie was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the the Edmonton Oilers with an ankle injury and will not return, the team announced.
No further details on the severity of the injury have been made available by the team at this time.
Barrie blocked a shot midway through the first period and immediately went to the dressing room.
Upon testing how his ankle felt shortly after during a TV timeout, and then testing it against after the first intermission, Barrie went back to the room and did not return to the bench.
With the 28-year-old out, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe opted to pair Barrie’s blueline partner, Morgan Rielly, with Travis Dermott.
Barrie’s absence, after just 2:52 of ice time, left the Maple Leafs with only five defencemen in Saturday’s game. In 33 games with the Maple Leafs this season, Barrie has scored three goals and added 10 assists.
