Usman would entertain McGregor fight if he 'beats someone pretty high up' Kamaru Usman seems to be warming up to the idea of a fight with Conor McGregor. The UFC welterweight champion said he would be willing to square off with the Irishman, but only if he proves himself as a worthy contender in the division. "Conor doesn’t even really make sense. Sure, if he comes in the division and beats someone pretty high up there and really makes the case for himself that he can really handle himself in the division, then absolutely I would entertain that fight," Usman told MMA Fighting's Damon Martin. When McGregor hinted last month he wanted to win a UFC belt in a third weight class, Usman initially brushed off the potential matchup.

UFC president Dana White is adamant that Conor McGregor's next fight will be for the lightweight title and says a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov would be massive for the company.

"The Khabib fight is what makes sense," White said after McGregor's win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, according to TSN's Aaron Bronsteter. "It will be the biggest fight in MMA history. It will break all records, and it will be insane."

McGregor, who finished Cerrone in 40 seconds Saturday night in Las Vegas, met Nurmagomedov for the first time at UFC 229 in October 2018. The lightweight champ submitted McGregor in the fourth round of his first title defense.

The undefeated Russian is scheduled to meet No. 1 contender Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18 in Brooklyn.
