UFC president Dana White is adamant that Conor McGregor's next fight will be for the lightweight title and says a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov would be massive for the company.

"The Khabib fight is what makes sense," White said after McGregor's win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, according to TSN's Aaron Bronsteter. "It will be the biggest fight in MMA history. It will break all records, and it will be insane."

McGregor, who finished Cerrone in 40 seconds Saturday night in Las Vegas, met Nurmagomedov for the first time at UFC 229 in October 2018. The lightweight champ submitted McGregor in the fourth round of his first title defense.

The highly-anticipated bout was incredibly personal for both Nurmagomedov and McGregor, who verbally attacked each other in the lead-up to the event. After Nurmagomedov finished McGregor in the fight, the champ went after one of the Irishman's training partners and a brawl ensued in the Octagon. It was one of the most infamous nights in the sport's history.

Nurmagomedov-McGregor broke the company's pay-per-view record with a reported 2.4 million buys.

The undefeated Russian is scheduled to meet No. 1 contender Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18 in Brooklyn.

McGregor said before his clash with Cerrone that he wants the Nurmagomedov rematch, but he's also targeting welterweight bouts against champion Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal.
