Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher said Boston Bruins defender Zdeno Chara called him to apologize for cross-checking him in the throat last week, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels.

Chara viciously cross-checked Gallagher during their tilt last Wednesday and then mocked him for embellishing the hit. Chara received a minor penalty and Gallagher received a roughing penalty on the play.

Chara avoided a suspension for the hit and was fined $5,000 instead.

Gallagher added he was appreciative of the gesture.

Zack Kassian anxious to help Edmonton Oilers now suspension is over .
Zack Kassian did not need to apologize to teammates for his seven-game suspension. The Edmonton Oilers understood Kassian kicking out at Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Erik Cernak in an effort to untangle himself from a pile, that it was reactionary and devoid of malicious intent. Kassian received a seven-game suspension for what could have potentially been a dangerous play. Getting seven games for something potentially dangerous, Kassian would have been better off cross-checking Cernak in the throat.
