Kawasaki driver Jonathan Rea clearly won the Superpole race in San Juan (). The world champion prevailed against Ducati driver Alvaro Bautista, who lost connection to Rea at an early stage. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Puccetti-Kawasaki) finished third.
Alvaro Bautista was in row one with Michael van der Mark (Yamaha) and Jonathan Rea. The Spaniard took the lead in turn 1. Rea took the second position. Van der Mark lost some positions. In the first lap, Rea squeezed past Bautista and took the lead. In the winding part of the route, Rea was able to pull away.

Loris Baz (Ten-Kate-Yamaha) said goodbye to the race with a crash in turn 16. The Frenchman had already crashed in Superpole and was therefore unable to take part in the first race.
Rea escaped at the top with 1:37 times. Bautista could not keep up with the British's pace. Toprak Razgatlioglu was lonely in third position. Behind them formed a group with Alex Lowes (Yamaha), Chaz Davies (Ducati), Michael van der Mark (Yamaha) and Sandro Cortese (GRT-Yamaha). Davies prevailed against Lowes and pursued Razgatlioglu.
At halftime, Rea led by more than two seconds. Bautista was lonely doing his laps in position two. Razgatlioglu was about a second and a half ahead of Davies. The order did not change in the final rounds.
Rea had a frightening second turning into corner 10 two laps before the end of the race, but Bautista could not benefit from it. The victory in the Superpole race went to Rea. Bautista and Razgatlioglu completed the top 3.
Davies finished fourth. Lowes was the fifth best Yamhaa pilot. His brand colleagues Michael van der Mark and Sandro Cortese followed in positions six and seven. Leon Haslam (Kawasaki) and Tom Sykes (BMW) collected the final points. Local hero Leandro Mercado (Orelac-Kawasaki) went empty in tenth.
Markus Reiterberger (BMW) crossed the line in 17th position. The Superstock champion was more than 42 seconds behind after ten laps and could only leave Honda driver Ryuichi Kiyonari behind.
The second main race will start at 9:00 p.m. CEST.
