Sports Guillaume Cizeron does not "want to be the gay skater, but the medalist skater"
Sweden’s U20 coach Tomas Montén highlights Mattias Norlinder’s adaptability
With little time to practise, Norlinder accepted a minor role with Team Sweden at the WJC. Now he’ll be expected to broaden his role after a move to Frölunda.“Last year he had a good season in Modo, but he had a tough season with the national team. We picked him in February but he got injured — he got a concussion I think — then we picked him for the World Junior Summer Showcase in Michigan and he was injured as well in the summer [a scaphoid bone fracture]. The first time he could play with us was in November, and that’s like three weeks before we pick the team, and it was the only experience he had for playing in the National Team.
To "educate and help", the skater Guillaume Cizeron, one of the most beautiful winners of French sport, decided to publicly reveal his homosexuality.
His speaking will count. Four-time world champion, five-time European champion and 2018 Olympic vice-champion in ice dance,(25) is the first French champion in activity to reveal his homosexuality.
After posting a photo of him with his partner on social media, Gabriella Papadakis' partner on the ice, decided to come out in interviews tomagazine and where he also published a long letter.

If it is a (more frequent) in Anglo-Saxon countries, the process is still very rare in France. We can cite Amélie Mauresmo (tennis), Amandine Bouchard (judo) or the former football international, who became a consultant, Olivier Rouyer in 2008, more than twenty years after the end of his career. Guillaume Cizeron explains that "exposing oneself serves the homosexual cause".
"I wanted to share this publicly because it was world day against homophobia and transphobia, details the skater in Têtu. I told myself that by living in Montreal, one of the cities where we feel the most free as a person of the LGBT community, we tend to forget how much this is not the case everywhere. The past few months, I have spoken about it with many people who surround me and are part of the community […], and who have told me how far it could have a bearing that I get involved in this cause, says the four-time world champion and five-time European champion. " Fighting for morals to evolve "
Guillaume Cizeron admits that he hesitated a long time before revealing himself. "What held me back for a while was the fact that I always considered that we shouldn't have to come out. I was quite surprised that people made so many positive comments, it made me happy. There are still 200 or 300 people who stopped following me at that time, out of 84,000. I have the impression that gay sportsmen are still known to be gay sportsmen. I don't want to be the gay skater, but the medalist skater. But I think that there is still a need to fight for manners to evolve in this direction.
The skater also wanted to transmit an educational message. This is the meaning of his letter titled "I felt like I was different" that he wrote for the Team. "I realized that if my words had the power to help even a better person, to accept each other, then it would be worth speaking. Telling in my text what happened to me traumatizing and which happened to hundreds, probably thousands of people, it gives a voice to people who have lived the same story but who do not have the same space of expression . I know it will be read by people who will recognize themselves. Otherwise I would not have told it, everyone doesn’t care that I experienced this! I don't just want to say I'm gay but I also help educate. »
