Raphael , in the Bible, one of the archangels. He is said (Tobit 12:15) to be “one of the seven holy angels [archangels] who present the prayers of the saints and enter into the presence of the glory of the Holy One.”

After seven years , Raffael Borussia Mönchengladbach will leave at the end of this season. It's been seven unforgettable years of a great player and person. A few words to perhaps the best Gladbach player of the past decade, who cannot express how special Raphael was.

These Brazilians with their stage names - how can you present them sensibly on the starting grid? After all, there is no first name, which the stadium announcer then says, and no last name, which the fans then bawl. There is only one name. Something like Raphael. But that's not true, there's a lot more to it than that. And every Gladbach fan knows that.

Raphael , master painter and architect of the Italian High Renaissance, best known for his Madonnas and for his large figure compositions in the Vatican. Thank you for your feedback. Early years at Urbino. Raphael was the son of Giovanni Santi and Magia di Battista Ciarla; his mother died in 1491.

Raphael is an insane soccer player and an even better person. The former could be admired every week for weeks, the latter emphasize companions again and again. It is not for nothing that the outwardly quiet Brazilian has the nickname "Papi" in the Borussia Mönchengladbach team.

But it also shows in the actions: He switched to coach Lucien Favre three times because he got on well with him and showed his best performance under him. He stayed when Hertha descended from the Bundesliga in 2010 to shoot it up again (which he did) and he also stayed in Mönchengladbach when he was one of the best players in the Bundesliga and could certainly have played elsewhere.

But Raphael feels at home in the Lower Rhine, he would also like to have stayed on. After seven years, however, his time at Borussia ends, and it just won't get any further from either side. It's a shame, but it's understandable. What remains are seven unforgettable years with incredible games.

When Raphael came to Borussia in 2013, a technically strong and dangerous Brazilian was expected, but how well, then he was actually hardly anyone on the screen. Maybe Lucien Favre. Raphael enchanted everyone with his outstanding technique and his incredible dribbling, scored many goals and gave as many assists.

I particularly remember a game in the Campions League against FC Barcelona in September 2016. But not because Julian Korb made the game of his life and annoyed Neymar to death, or because Marc-Andre ter Stegen returned for the first time, no , because of Raphael; although he only played for 48 minutes. What he did with the Catalans' defensive in the first half was phenomenal, sometimes he employed three or four players at the same time - and dribbled them all out. The foals deservedly led 1-0 to the break. Shortly after the restart, Raphael had to get out injured, Barca did Barca things and still won. Still an unforgettable performance.

And there have been many such appearances. You can certainly find some arguments that Raphael was the best Gladbach player of the past decade. The heart and soul of the offensive over many years was, however, quite certain; if Raphael was missing, then Borussia was missing her most important player for the offensive, for a long time even at all.

In his last game against Hertha on Saturday, it was clear once again: Raffael came on with a standing ovation and when he suddenly appeared in front of the goal, the background noise swelled noticeably even without fans; unfortunately without a happy ending, because Dennis Smarsch did not distribute any gifts in his debut debut in the Berliner Tor. Still it was a nice moment to see "Papi" on the lawn for the last time.

He wants to continue his career somewhere. He is allowed to stay fit and go through another good or two years as a professional football player. Perhaps the stadium announcer will then take a look at what Torsten Knippertz has always called in Borussia Park: "Cateano de Araujo". Because that is his full name, of course in connection with "Raffael", which the fans then cried out with all their fervor.

And all that's left is to say thank you: for seven wonderful years and some unforgettable moments, for a great footballer and person. Thank you, Raphael!
