DeChambeau after confronting cameraman: Players need 'times of privacy'

DeChambeau after confronting cameraman: Players need 'times of privacy' Bryson DeChambeau displayed his frustration with a cameraman on Saturday after botching a bunker shot on the seventh hole during the third round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. DeChambeau threw his club into the sand, then took issue with the cameraman following him closely to the green as he proceeded to mark his ball. He holed out for bogey before confronting the camerman. “He was literally watching me the whole entire way up after getting out of the bunker, walking up next to the green," DeChambeau said, according to Golf Channel's Will Gray.

Dustin Johnson is fresh off earning his 21st PGA Tour title at the Travelers Championship, so he isn't too concerned about Bryson DeChambeau's run of success following his transformation into golf's longest hitter.

"I feel like my game and where it's at and how far I hit it, is far enough," Johnson said Tuesday at the Memorial Tournament, according to ASAP Sports. "And until I feel like I need to hit it further to compete or beat these guys, then that's what I'll do. But for right now, I feel like if I'm playing my game, he can hit it as far as he wants to, and I don't think he's going to beat me."

Column: The measure of DeChambeau is if anyone copies him

That was John Daly at Crooked Stick in 1991 when he followed his caddie's instructions — “Kill it!” — on his way to winning the PGA Championship. It was Tiger Woods at Augusta National in 1997, when he hit pitching wedge into a par 5 and won the Masters by 12 shots. Not to be forgotten is J.B. Holmes at the Phoenix Open in 2006. He hit 4-iron from 263 yards — back when a 263-yard shot over water to a par 5 was considered a risk — and finished with a tee shot that took bunkers, water, everything out of play.

Johnson, who moved to world No. 3 after his victory three tournaments ago, has ranked inside the top 10 in driving distance every year on the PGA Tour since 2008.

He admitted he has another gear in terms of length off the tee but doesn't feel it's worth the risk.

"I'd probably hurt something," Johnson said about trying to swing as hard as DeChambeau does. "That's why I don't do it. And I wouldn't find half of them."

He added, "When I'm on the range, sometimes I'll start hitting them hard just for fun, and I generally hit them pretty straight. But it's different when you're on a wide driving range than when you're on the golf course and you've got to hit it into a pretty narrow fairway."

Johnson will play Rounds 1 and 2 alongside fellow Presidents Cup team members Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele in search of back-to-back PGA Tour wins.

Finau 'inspired' by DeChambeau's power transformation .
Bryson DeChambeau continues to catch the attention of his peers, with Tony Finau the latest to admit he's now chasing distance after witnessing DeChambeau's successful power transformation. "It no doubt inspired me," Finau said Thursday, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "I don't think what he's doing is rocket science, but it's executing at that speed. Being able to see him swing that fast and hit it that straight got me thinking a little bit."I tried it out there on a couple of drives and was able to execute, so I think I'm going to start putting them into my game.
