The San Diego Padres are headed to the postseason for the first time in 14 years after the team beat the Seattle Mariners in extra innings on Sunday.

San Diego needed a three-run 11th inning to beat the Mariners.

The win also kept the Padres four games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West race. Right now, they're the NL's No. 4 seed as the best second-place team in the Senior Circuit.

The Padres have only made the playoffs six times since their inception in 1969, and haven't won a postseason series since their most recent NL pennant in 1998.
