UFC president Dana White said Saturday night that it's "very possible" the promotion is looking to book a welterweight bout between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

The UFC reportedly was eyeing a rematch between Masvidal and Nate Diaz, but White said there has been no progress on scheduling it. It appears the UFC has shifted to Covington as Masvidal's next opponent following the former interim champion's win over Tyron Woodley earlier in September.

Covington dominates Woodley en route to 5th-round TKO in UFC main event In a long-awaited clash of bitter rivals, Colby Covington came out victorious over Tyron Woodley. Covington defeated Woodley via TKO at 1:19 of the fifth round in the welterweight main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Woodley shouted in pain and verbally submitted while Covington was on top of him. Woodley appeared to suffer a rib injury, which led to the referee stoppage. After the fight, Covington called out 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman and former training partner Jorge Masvidal."Marty Fakenewsman (Usman), Street Judas (Masvidal), we got unfinished business," Covington said in his postfight interview.

Dana White talks about how security wanted to remove Colby Covington and that Jorge Masvidal was trying to get to Colby at UFC 241.

"I don't even know if we talked to Nate yet," White said at the UFC 253 postfight press conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, according to MMA Fighting. "But yeah, (with) the Colby fight, how do you not make that fight? That's the fight that makes sense. The Nate Diaz rematch is gonna be there no matter what happens."

Covington and Masvidal used to train together at American Top Team in Florida and were even good friends. But they had a falling out in the past year and are now considered enemies.

Covington said after beating Woodley at UFC Fight Night that he either wanted a rematch with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman or the grudge match against Masvidal.

Masvidal challenged Usman for the title at UFC 251 in July, falling short via unanimous decision. He said afterward he wasn't interested in fighting Covington.
