'Best in the league'? Why Tampa Bay Rays are the perfect squad for MLB's 2020 season Set to win the AL East title for the first time since 2010, the Tampa Bay Rays are gearing up“It says, ‘Postseason 2020. Respect Tampa Bay,’” he said, reading the pre-fab league slogan for every playoff qualifier to a group of socially-distanced media members.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer put together a career year, making re-signing him a top priority for his team's front office.

Bauer is scheduled to become a free agent at season's end, and the Reds want to keep the NL Cy Young contender on their squad for the foreseeable future.

"Well, you know, (CEO) Bob (Castellini) and I and (GM) Nick (Krall) and the group will do everything we can to make that happen," president of baseball operations Dick Williams said on Saturday, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Brewers rally in 7th, bolster chances with 3-2 win over Reds

Brewers rally in 7th, bolster chances with 3-2 win over Reds CINCINNATI — Facing a loss that could have deeply dented their playoff chances, the Milwaukee Brewers pulled one out behind an infielder who hasn't been able to crack the starting lineup lately. Eric Sogard doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and Milwaukee rallied Tuesday night for a 3-2 victory over the surging Cincinnati Reds that bolstered the Brewers' sagging playoff hopes. “A huge game,” said Sogard, who came in batting .186. “Every game is do-or-die for us right now.” The Brewers have reached the playoffs each of the last two seasons with September surges. They've won four of five and are back to .500 (27-27) for the eighth time this season.

"I'd love to say yes that there are scenarios where it could happen," he added. "It's honestly not something we're working on today, right now, we're really focused on the postseason, but I'd love to think that Trevor would come back."

Bauer will be one of the most sought-after players if he becomes a free agent. But if he sticks to his word, it's likely the ace will sign a lucrative one-year deal instead of a multi-year pact this offseason.

The 29-year-old said he would "go year-to-year my entire career" in 2019 because of a slowed-down free-agent market. MLB clubs aren't expected to spend lavishly this offseason because of financial issues amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Bauer has authored an exceptional 1.73 ERA, 2.87 FIP, 0.80 WHIP, and 12.3 K/9 pitching line in 11 starts during the shortened regular season.
