PSG's league campaign in trouble after rocky start to season

PSG's league campaign in trouble after rocky start to season PARIS — Having been within touching distance of the European crown it so craves, and invested so much money to achieve, Paris Saint-Germain's league title defence is in danger of slipping off the rails. Only weeks ago PSG stood 90 minutes away from joining Marseille as the only French club to win the Champions League. But PSG lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich, and the club has been in freefall since as problems have piled up amid a lack of authority and poor discipline. What triggered a sequence of baffling events was a much-criticized yet club-approved decision to allow star players to jet off to Ibiza for a few days off after the Munich defeat.

It is understood Tottenham immediately rejected PSG ’ s offer , with Alli set to remain and fight for his place in José Mourinho’s squad. The Spurs manager would not be drawn on Wednesday over whether Alli could be handed an opportunity in Thursday night’s Europa play-off against Maccabi Haifa

PSG and Spurs have both expressed an interest. Sheffield United are closing in on a deal for the youngster after making a £17m offer , although they will include a buy-back Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants to keep the former MK Dons starlet, but Alli is said to be considering his future with time

Spurs have rejected a £1.5-million loan bid from Paris Saint-Germain for the versatile Englishman, according to Ed Aarons of The Guardian. Last week, reports surfaced that Tottenham offered the 24-year-old to PSG, and his agent was in talks to engineer a move away from the Premier League side.

Alli has not featured in a league match since being substituted at halftime of the club's season opener against Everton, sparking rumors of an exit.

The England international has been a disappointment for several seasons at Spurs and would hardly be a big boost in Paris.

Dele Alli is left out of Tottenham' s squad AGAIN despite Jose Mourinho hinting at major changes for the Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea. It is unlikely that Alli will leave Spurs permanently, but a season-long loan could be sanctioned if it is right for all parties.

The 24-year-old came off the bench Thursday in the Europa League playoff against Maccabi Haifa and scored a late goal in his team's 7-2 win.

Earlier this week, manager Jose Mourinho refused to draw himself into the speculation when pressed about Alli's future with Spurs, and only said Alli was "very, very professional" despite the reduced playing time.

"I have only respect for him," Mourinho added.

Alli, who has looked destined for megastardom since scoring 18 league goals during the 2016-17 season, has seen his progress stagnate, particularly since Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in north London.
