Michael Cuisance had big plans for Bayern Munich.

The French talent was dissatisfied with his playing times at Borussia Mönchengladbach. His demand for regular playing time met with incomprehension from those responsible for the foals - that was a year ago.

This summer a similar picture emerged. Once again, Cuisance - meanwhile a Bayern player - was dissatisfied with his playing times, and again he was striving for change. On the last day of the transfer period, he moved home to Olympique Marseille on loan - including an option to buy. According to L’Equipe , this amounts to 18 million euros. A move to Leeds United had previously been canceled for unexplained reasons.

Cuisance provokes move to Bayern

Even the move to Munich was associated with unpleasant background noises. As an 18-year-old in his debut season 17/18 at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the fans voted "Player of the Season", but the midfield talent's appearances were rarer in the following season - in 18/19 he only made 400 competitive minutes.

That wasn't enough for Cuisance. As a consequence, he openly threatened to say goodbye. He also provoked those responsible when he trained with open laces in preparation, for example. That was not well received by the Borussia bosses, which is why they finally agreed to a change to the record champions in summer 2019. Bayern paid around eight million euros in transfer fees.

"It is surprising to me that the 19-year-old is so dissatisfied that he demands a regular seat guarantee that no player has with us," said Gladbach's sports director Max Eberl in the Rheinische Post , irritated. Borussia has become Cuisance "too small", added coach Marco Rose.

And the Bavarians? They were happy to have a highly talented midfielder whom they had observed several years earlier. Cuisance himself was self-confident when he presented himself to the record champions, citing Zinédine Zidane as a role model. "I am sure that we will have a lot of fun with him," enthused sports director Hasan Salihamidzic - meanwhile sports director - of the creative left-footer.

A year later, it can be said that Bayern didn't have much fun with Cuisance. In the first few months the Frenchman was hardly or not at all used. Sometimes he lacked the right attitude, sometimes he lacked physical presence during training. He also had problems connecting with the team. Inside the team, his lax attitude was initially viewed critically.

That's why Flick Nübel deleted from the squad

That's why Flick Nübel deleted from the squad Alexander Nübel was not in the FC Bayern squad at 1: 4 in Hoffenheim. Coach Hansi Flick explained the background. © imago images This time not in Bavaria's squad: Alexander Nübel. In the Bundesliga opener against Schalke (8: 0) and in the UEFA Supercup against Sevilla (2: 1 nV), Hansi Flick had cleverly solved his luxury problem in goal: He simply put Alexander Nübel (23) and Sven Ulreich (32) on the bench. That changed on Sunday.

Cuisance causes trouble at Reserve

In November, he caused trouble when he was supposed to get match practice with the 2nd team, but came too late to the meeting point . He couldn't find his shoes. As a punishment, he braised the first hour on the bench.

But under coach Hansi Flick, Cuisance worked on himself and was rewarded with a few appearances in the second half of the season. In the last game of the 19/20 season he was allowed to run the full distance for the first time and promptly scored a goal in the 4-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg. Nevertheless, in the end he only completed around 310 minutes of competitive play, even less than in the previous season for the foals.

Too little for him. Even at the final tournament in the Champions League in Lisbon, he remained without commitment - although Flick had previously praised him ("He also trained again in training as we like to see it"). At the start of the new season there was renewed frustration. In the 8-0 victory against Schalke 04, he was only allowed to play 17 minutes.

Although the departure of Thiago Cuisance made hope for more playing time, he decided to switch again. "Michael wants regular working times," said Salihamidzic.

Marseille instead of Leeds

A move to Leeds United for around 20 million euros was considered fixed, but failed on the home straight - Cuisance allegedly failed the medical check. But he contradicted that. "There was no problem with the medical check-up in Leeds," said the 21-year-old.

reportedly had financial disagreements between Bayern and Leeds. The record champions wanted to integrate a buyback clause into the contract and pursue its development.

So now Marseille. This time the construct is different: loan plus option to buy. And Cuisance, who was born in Strasbourg, has already made it clear where he sees his future. "I will play the season for OM and give it my all. If the purchase option is drawn, I will be happy."

A return to Bayern is obviously not at the top of his wish list.
