If the NBA tips off next season on Dec . 22 , as NBA owners are pushing for (it is still being negotiated), there will be just 73 For a player prioritizing rest and recovery like LeBron , sitting out the start of the season may not be out of the question. That said, players in general — and the players’ union — are

Los Angeles Lakers guard Danny Green doesn't expect many of his teammates to be ready for opening night, including LeBron James, if the NBA begins its 2020-21 campaign on Dec. 22.

"I think most guys - if they say we start in December - I think they're like, 'I'm not going to be there,'" Green said Monday on The Ringer NBA Show.

"To have that quick of a restart, I wouldn't expect to see (LeBron) there. I wouldn't expect to see him there for the first month of the season. He'll probably be working out with us ... but I just don't expect guys to want to be there or show up willingly."

The Lakers and Miami Heat concluded their 2019-20 campaign on Oct. 11, which translates into a two-month turnaround for both clubs.

Opinion: After reconciling, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson can celebrate NBA championship

Opinion: After reconciling, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson can celebrate NBA championship Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson had a falling-out in 2018-19, but those differences have been forgotten after LA's NBA championship. When Johnson and Pelinka spoke on Sunday night, the significance went beyond a franchise luminary gushing about tying the hated Boston Celtics for the most titles in league history (17). More than one-and-a-half years ago, Johnson resigned as the Lakers’ president of basketball operations and accused Pelinka of “backstabbing.” And yet, Pelinka said he “had a great talk” with Johnson immediately after the Lakers beat the Miami Heat 106-93 in a decisive Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Last Update May 2, 2016. LeBron expected to miss two weeks. James, who turned 30 on Tuesday, missed Cleveland's game on Dec . 11 at Oklahoma City with a sore knee. Through 29 games in his first season back in Cleveland, James leads the Cavaliers with 25.2 points per game and 7.6 assists.

Lebron took down the deadliest team in NBA history while at an enormous handicap. I fully expect to see a comparison of how many dunks Jordan missed vs. how many LeBron has missed tomorrow.

While a December tipoff still requires approval from the players' union, Green believes it's "highly unlikely" his peers will push back on the targeted start date.

"A lot of other stars haven't played in a long time ... some guys have been out of the bubble for a while," Green said. "Some teams haven't played in a year."

The NBA has reportedly informed the Board of Governors that a Dec. 22 start could lead to more than $500 million in additional revenue.

Opinion: NBA declared war on President Trump's 2020 presidential campaign .
We’ve seen pro athletes speak out, but we’ve never seen anything like what the NBA has done to influence the 2020 U.S. presidential election. It was two months ago that the NBA declared war on President Trump’s 2020 campaign. The final battle will be waged on the first Tuesday of November, Election Day, and the battleground includes 125 S. Pennsylvania in downtown Indianapolis, an address you know better as Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers and WNBA's Indiana Fever.
