TAMPA (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden presented their contrasting approaches to the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic at meetings on Thursday in the key state of Florida.

The polls show Joe Biden clearly ahead of Donald Trump at the national level but with his lead is more limited in the key states which play a decisive role in the outcome of the election.

A Reuters / Ipsos poll released Wednesday showed Donald Trump was close to a tie with Joe Biden in Florida, with 49% of those polled saying they would vote for the Democrat compared to 47% saying they would be the president.

The US president played down the coronavirus pandemic, telling those gathered that if they contracted the virus they would just have to "get better", just as he himself had done after being diagnosed positive.

A few hours later, Joe Biden organized a meeting in the same city in which spectators had to stay in their cars in order to avoid the spread of the virus.

Joe Biden criticized Donald Trump for holding a "super-propagator event" and attacked the president's claims that the country has passed the worst days of the pandemic despite an increase in cases across the country.
