Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney announced quarterback Trevor Lawrence won't face Notre Dame next Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19 this past week, according to Ralph D. Russo of The Associated Press.

Lawrence, who didn't play in the Tigers' 34-28 win over Boston College on Saturday, announced his positive test Thursday night but received the result Wednesday, Stadium's Brett McMurphy reports. The ACC mandates that players with COVID-19 isolate for 10 days.

The junior and presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was considered a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season before being sidelined. He's completed over 70% of his pass attempts for 1,833 yards and 17 touchdowns against two interceptions through six games.

Clemson escaped an upset against Boston College with freshman DJ Uiagalelei under center, but the Tigers will need to improve in their matchup versus Notre Dame, which is expected to carry national title implications. The Tigers entered Week 9 ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll, while the Fighting Irish sit fourth.
