Dillon’s positive test.Rookie inside linebacker Krys Barnes tested positive for COVID-19, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to PackersNews, part of the USA TODAY Network. GREEN BAY - As expected after their addition to the Green Bay Packers’ injury report late Monday for being in close contact to running back AJ Dillon (who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list), running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin will miss Thursday’s game at San Francisco.
Per NFL COVID-19 protocols, those deemed in “close contact” with a player who tests positive must be held out of the facility and practices for at least five days since they were last in close contact with an individual who tested positive.
As of Tuesday morning, starting running back Aaron Jones’ status for the game remained in doubt due to a calf strain suffered Oct. 22 before the team traveled to Houston. Second-year running back Dexter Williams is the only healthy full-time running back on the roster, as Tyler Ervin plays and practices as a wide receiver.
NFL expanding sideline bench areas, mandating postgame mask use for players
The NFL will require players to wear masks for all postgame interactions as the league continues to make changes to its COVID-19 protocols. To allow for more adequate physical distancing practices, teams' sideline bench areas now will extend from one 20-yard line to the other rather than from the 30 to 30.
The club can activate season-opening starter Christian Kirksey (pectoral) off IR before they leave for California, though they would have to make a corresponding roster to move to accommodate him. The team also has Krys Barnes, Ty Summers and the recently acquired James Burgess on the active roster while De’Jon Harris is on the practice squad.
15. 49ers (15): It may seem like virtually all of their key players are sidelined, but San Francisco has time to heal given it plays once in 24 days following this week's Thursday night date with Green Bay.
7. Packers (7): Time for defense to tighten up after surrendering 86 points and notching just one takeaway over last three weeks. A little revenge against Niners on Thursday night would be a good start.
1. Steelers (1): Pittsburgh has never started 8-0 but seems a good bet to reel off another three wins (Dallas, Cincinnati, Jacksonville) heading into a Thanksgiving rematch against Baltimore at Heinz Field.
