Opinion: Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz channels Hayden Fry, pops off after Minnesota's late stunt Iowa's Kirk Ferentz didn't appreciate Minnesota's P.J. Fleck calling late timeout in blowout, so he responded with zinger Hayden Fry would have loved.Of course, it wasn’t the 21-16 outcome that Ferentz remembered most. It was the fact that Fry showed up to his postgame news conference wearing overalls and a straw hat, his way of needling then-Minnesota coach Joe Salem and Minneapolis media who had called the Hawkeyes “a bunch of farmers.

Being kind to girls is the most important thing to 17-year-old Iida Harunari. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz took exception Friday after his Nebraska counterpart Scott Frost claimed Cameron Jurgens' snapping issues during the Hawkeyes' 26-20 win had nothing to do with the center's play.

"The issue with snaps today, I don't think had anything to do with technique. There was clapping going on on their sideline and Cam heard that clap and thought it was the quarterback clapping," Frost said, according to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.

Ferentz was not impressed.

"If a player was on the field doing it, I get that," he said. "But what are we talking about? ... The next thing you know, we're going to be treating this like golf. ... nobody is able to say anything, right?"

Opinion: Virginia Tech has become the college football team that can’t close the deal If Virginia Tech finishes 5-6, one of the ACC-affiliated bowls would gladly take the Hokies, but such a bowl would come with no small amount of shame. But here’s a potential conundrum the 4-4 Hokies may have to face in a few weeks: If they fail to secure a winning record, do they accept a bowl bid anyway knowing that they didn’t play well enough to deserve it under regular circumstances?

Richards was from some not very good state university engineering school. Being the same age myself, and just out of technical college I saw at once that his knowledge was rather poor.

The Iowa coach continued: "We should just go home right now. What are we talking about? It's football, right? ... Were they OK with how I dressed today? Should I be changing my pants, different shirt?"

Jurgens sent numerous snaps over the heads of quarterbacks Adrian Martinez and Luke McCaffrey in the first half. Despite the errant snaps, Nebraska led 20-13 in the third quarter. But the Cornhuskers were unable to hang on, surrendering 13 unanswered points to close the game.

Iowa moved to 4-2 with the win while Nebraska plunged to 1-4.
