Irving gets hot in fourth as Nets outscore Hawks 145-141
NEW YORK — In a game that was almost all about offence, Kyrie Irving just couldn't get into the act. Then in the fourth quarter, he shot the Hawks down from the unbeaten list. Irving shook off three rough quarters to score 17 of his 25 points in the fourth, Kevin Durant had 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, and the Brooklyn Nets handed Atlanta its first loss with a 145-141 victory on Wednesday night. The opener of a two-game series was the third game in Nets franchise history where both teams had 100 points through three quarters. But Irving was just 3 for 16 from the field and getting badly outplayed by point guard counterpart Trae Young.
Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving missed his third consecutive game on Sunday due to personal reasons.
"Ky’s still on personal leave and all the communication with Ky, between the organization, I’m going to keep private and I’m sure you’ll hear from him at some point," Nets coach Steve Nash said before playing the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Irving missed Thursday’s home game against Philadelphia, Friday’s road game against Memphis and Sunday’s home game against Oklahoma City. Kevin Durant returned Sunday for the Nets, his first game back from a seven-day quarantine. He had 36 points and 11 rebounds in Brooklyn's 129-116 loss to the Thunder. Durant had Irving's back.

"I don’t worry about Kyrie falling out of rhythm," Nash said. "He’s a brilliant basketball player. When he comes back, I’m sure it won’t take him long to be himself."

NEW YORK — Kyrie Irving rejoined the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, saying he took a leave of absence because he “just needed a pause.” Irving practiced with the team and could play Wednesday in Cleveland. He has missed the last seven games — five while away from the team and two more while regaining his conditioning after he was eligible to return. Resting his head on his arms folded in front of him while he spoke during a Zoom interview, Irving didn't give a clear reason for his absence, saying he had a lot of family and personal stuff going on.
