It was a night Tim Stützle will never forget. The German youngster, in just his second career game, buried the first goal of his NHL career Saturday night. Tim Stützle (surname alternately spelled Stuetzle ; born 15 January 2002) is a German professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League ( NHL ).

Friday was Tim Stützle’s 19th birthday. He celebrated the day by playing in his first NHL game.

One day later, he became an NHL goal scorer — and it was such a beauty of a goal, it should be added to highlight reels everywhere.

In the third period with the Senators trailing 3-1, he made a pass by the blue line and then glided into the right circle undetected. Thomas Chabot went to send in — it looked like the puck deflected off a Maple Leafs' defender's stick — and Stützle lined it and took it off the short hop ripping it past Jack Campbell.

After the puck tickled the twine, the Senators' third-overall pick in the October draft celebrated hard and had a grin from ear to ear as he went to the bench to get fist-pumps from his teammates.

Enjoy it and love the game! Tim Stützle (born 15 January 2002) is a German hockey player playing for Adler Mannheim in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). In the 2017–18 season, Stützle transferred to Jungadler Mannheim, scoring 18 goals and 29 assists.

"It was definitely a great feeling but in the end, you want to come out with the win," said Stützle, referencing the Senators 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.

"It [landed] kind of flat," he noted later on. "So, I just, because [head coach D.J. Smith] told us to bring more pucks to the net, so I thought [that] if it's flat I would bring it to the net and I hit it very good. I think it went in short-side. Overall a good play from the whole line."

"We looked at each other on the bench a little bit in awe," said Nick Paul, who called the goal a beauty. "It was a great goal and he's a great player so it's good for him to get the first one tonight."

Stützle began his NHL career Friday after putting on a show at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Named to the Media All-Star Team and crowned the tournament's best forward, he potted 10 points (five goals, five assists) in five games for Germany. His play was a key factor in Germany's advancement to the World Juniors' playoff round for the first time.

While it was less than 24 hours between games, there was a sense that the youngster's game was already taking a big step. As he noted: "I have more confidence. I felt better at making my plays." Compared to Friday night, his Corsi For percentage rose from 40 to 51.52 and his CF% relative went from -8.72 to 26.52, per Natural Stat Trick.

"He's gonna be a really good player and you can see his speed and it's great he gets that [goal]," said Smith. "I think you're gonna see more and more of that as the year goes on."
