Jets' Nathan Beaulieu out for season following shoulder surgery

Jets' Nathan Beaulieu out for season following shoulder surgery Beaulieu was playing with the injury this season but hadn’t suited up since exiting a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in early March. In all, his year will end with 25 games played and just a single assist. Fortunately for the 28-year-old defenseman, his contract extends through next season so he won’t have to try and find work coming off a major injury. Though obviously losing Beaulieu isn’t ideal, being able to move his contract—which carries a $1.25M cap hit—to long-term injured reserve does give the Jets a little more flexibility at the upcoming trade deadline.

Brady Tkachuk had two goals , Josh Norris and Thomas Chabot each had two assists, and Anton Forsberg made 24 saves for the Senators (14-25-4), who ended a four-game losing streak. Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers scored , and Connor Hellebuyck made 20 saves for the Jets (25-14-3), who had won Hellebuyck misplayed a dump-in by Chabot in front of his crease, and Dadonov picked up the loose puck and scored into an open net with his backhand. Tkachuk scored on a breakaway with a snap shot over Hellebuyck's glove at 16:12 for the 4 - 2 final. Defenseman Victor Mete played 9:43 in

Tkachuk scored twice and Brown extended his goal streak to eight games as the Senators beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 Monday.

"I think he's going to score the next 13," Tkachuk said, referring to the number of games left in Ottawa's season.

After a quiet start to the season, Brown is now scoring at a pace reserved for the league's top snipers. He tied Toronto's Auston Matthews for the longest goal streak of the season, and only Jaromir Jagr (nine goals, 1996-97) and Teemu Selanne (11 goals, 1997-98) have had longer streaks in the past 25 years.

About Last Night: Senators get revenge on Habs with 6-3 win

About Last Night: Senators get revenge on Habs with 6-3 win A promising week ended with an emphatic thud Saturday night at the Bell Centre, where the Montreal Canadiens lost 6-3 to the Ottawa Senators. Following a listless effort on Thursday that drew criticism from coach D.J. Smith, the young Senators lineup responded to the 4-1 loss with a physical, more aggressive tone, set 42 seconds into the contest when Brady Tkachuk opening scoring on the powerplay. Like a younger Corey Perry, Tkachuk has a fondness for parking himself in front of opposing goalies, and in this instance, spun around and shot the puck just out of goalie Carey Price’s reach.

Brown , who has up to this point has been a playmaker first, suddenly has taken over as the team’s top sniper during this last stretch. Should he keep it up, he could make the Senators reconsider who they protect for the upcoming Seattle expansion draft his summer. With the season winding down , fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Shane Pinto and Jacob Bernard-Docker, who entered COVID protocol earlier this week. The pair starred for the University of North Dakota for the past two seasons and signed their entry-level deals with the Senators after their season ended in March.

From that point the Jets (25-14-3) gave up four unanswered goals and ultimately dropped a 4 - 2 decision to the Senators , which snapped Winnipeg's win streak at three games. "We had a hard time managing the puck, physically and mentally," said head coach Paul Maurice. It was just the second goal the Jets penalty kill has given up in the last 17 shorthanded situations. Then with 1:22 to go in the opening period, Connor Brown scored to pull the Senators even, adding on to his franchise record goal - scoring streak, which now sits at eight games. "When they tied the game they looked different

"Nobody deserves it more than him," Tkachuk said. "He's one of the hardest workers that I know.

"Everybody's proud of him, and everything that he's shooting is going in."

Evgenii Dadonov scored the game-winner for Ottawa (14-25-4), which ended a four-game losing streak. Anton Forsberg was impressive in goal after a shaky start with 24 saves.

Thomas Chabot and Josh Norris each had two assists for the Senators, who improved to 2-4-1 against the Jets this season.

"We managed the puck a lot better than we have against them in other games," Senators head coach D.J. Smith said.

Kyle Connor and and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck, making his seventh straight start, stopped 20 shots.

Winnipeg (25-14-3) had its three-game winning streak ended and missed a chance to eat into Toronto's lead for top spot in the North Division. The Maple Leafs lost 4-2 to Montreal on Monday but remained six points ahead of the Jets.

Trade-deadline primer: San Jose Sharks

Trade-deadline primer: San Jose Sharks We are now less than a week away from the NHL Trade Deadline and talks are heating up. Where does each team stand and what moves should they be looking to make?  We continue our look around the league with the San Jose Sharks. © John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports Earlier this season, it appeared as if the San Jose Sharks were in for another disappointing year. The club wanted to use the shortened 2020-21 campaign to evaluate their core and the early returns were not encouraging. However, the past few weeks have changed everything. The Sharks are 6-3-1 in their past ten games, including four straight wins.

Tkachuk had a goal and two assists, Matt Murray made 20 saves in his Ottawa debut, and the Senators defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 in their first game in more than 10 months. But the Senators got back even 1:13 later when Tkachuk outmuscled T.J. Brodie to deflect Zaitsev's effort. Watson then got in on the action at 12:32, ripping a shot in off the crossbar to give Ottawa its first lead. Tierney then made it 4 - 2 at 15:03 when he swatted at a loose puck that glanced in off Brodie as the Leafs, who beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime Wednesday in their opener, were once again

The National Hockey League and Minnesota Wild today announced that tonight's game between the Wild and St. Louis Blues has been postponed. The decision was made out of respect for the community, following the tragic shooting that occurred in Brooklyn Center, Minn., Sunday afternoon.

The Jets opened the scoring five minutes into the game after some sustained pressure on their first power play.  Connor scored his 19th goal of the season when his slapshot hit the underside of the Ottawa crossbar and fell behind Forsberg.

Ehlers made it 2-0 at 11:35 of the first period when he used Paul Stastny as a screen and fooled Forsberg with a quick shot to pick up his 18th goal of the campaign.

With the goal, Ehlers extended his point streak to four games (three goals, three assists).

The Senators got one back on the power play when Norris's shot deflected off both Jets  defenceman Derek Forbort and Tkachuk and past Hellebuyck.

Brown scored his eighth goal in eight games and 14th overall when his shot went off Hellebuyck's glove and into the net to tie the game 2-2.

The Jets outshot Ottawa 14-7 in the second period, thanks in part to having three power plays. However, Forsberg was sharp to keep his team in the game.

Tkachuk has six points (four goals , two assists) in two games against the Flyers this season. He scored twice, including his first NHL goal , and had an assist in a 7-4 loss at Canadian Tire Centre on Oct. 10. … Philadelphia is the third team in NHL history to start five goalies in the first 24 games of a season, joining the 1988-89 Pittsburgh Penguins (Tom Barrasso, Steve Guenette, Frank Pietrangelo, Rick Tabaracci and Wendell Young) and the 2005-06 Artem Anisimov sends a backhand pass from behind the net to Evgenii Dadonov, who scores his second goal of the game for a 4 - 2 lead in the 2 nd.

Ottawa managed a couple of good scoring chances in the second on the counter-attack. Hellebuyck denied Brown another goal when he stopped the red-hot forward's breakaway attempt.

Hellebuyck had to be sharp again late in the period when he stopped speedy forward Alex Formenton on a breakaway and handled a follow-up from Chris Tierney.

Dadonov scored when Hellebuyck was unable to handle a bouncing puck, allowing the Senators forward to get the rebound and backhand the puck over the Jets goalie.

"I'm a little mad at myself," Hellebuyck, last season's winner of the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender, said after an off-game. "A couple bad mistakes. Not good enough."

Tkachuk scored his second of the game and 14th of the season when he caused a turnover in the neutral zone, then skated into Winnipeg's end and wired a shot past Hellebuyck.

The Senators went with a young defence after dealing veterans Mike Reilly, Erik Gudbranson and Braydon Coburn before Monday's trade deadline.

Erik Brannstrom, 21, moved into Ottawa's top-four while Victor Mete, 22, made his Senators debut after being claimed off waivers from Montreal earlier Monday.

"It's good to be here with a lot of young guys," said Mete, who played nine minutes 43 seconds Monday. "I feel like if I can establish myself here it will be a big success moving forward."

The Jets and Senators meet again Wednesday at Canadian Tire Centre.

NOTES: Winnipeg centre Mark Scheifele assisted on Connor's goal to give him an assist in four straight games. ... Ottawa forward Colin White played for the first time since he suffered an upper-body injury April 1 against Montreal.

The good news for the Canadiens is Carey Price was healthy and back in goal Saturday afternoon at the Bell Centre against the Ottawa Senators after missing the previous six games with a lower-body injury. Things didn’t get better for the Canadiens after that and they ended up losing 4-0 to the Senators. Drake Batherson scored twice for Ottawa and Nikita Zaitsev added an empty-netter. The Canadiens actually outshot the Senators 23-15. Josh Anderson got the first shot on goal for the Canadiens with a backhand on Senators goalie Matt Murray 48 seconds into the game.
