NFL Mock Draft 2021: Here's what happens when we let Madden simulate the picks
What if we let the virtual GMs decide the outcome of the 2021 NFL Draft? Here's how our experiment went down.Experts will break down team needs, watch film of the top college prospects and predict (to the best of their ability) where players will get drafted. We're going to be doing none of that in this mock draft. Here, we're going to set everything up so that the virtual GMs and coaches in "Madden 21" will be making the picks for us.
Here is a 2021 NFL draft pick-by-pick breakdown for the San Francisco 49ers:
Round 1 (No. 3 overall, from Texans through Dolphins) - Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State: A pick that's changed hands three times, the... and it was quickly followed by rampant speculation that they would take Alabama's Mac Jones. But , who has far more upside than Jones given his physical skills, seems like the better option given the franchise surrendered three first-rounders to get him.
Opinion: After successful smokescreen, 49ers go bold with QB vision by taking Trey Lance
Few analysts predicted that the 49ers would select Trey Lance with the No. 3 pick in the NFL draft, but San Francisco wasn't afraid to go bold.San Francisco, one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, snatched up one of the draft’s great mysteries in North Dakota State’s Trey Lance and crowned him as the quarterback of the future.
Round 2 (48, from Raiders) - Aaron Banks, OG, Notre Dame: Another all-ACC pick, he should help facilitate the Niners' ground game, which is truly the key to their offense. This O-line is getting a nice boost this spring after C Alex Mack also signed here.
Cincinnati Bengals draft picks 2021: Round-by-round selections
Here is a 2021 NFL draft pick-by-pick breakdown for the Cincinnati Bengals.Round 1 (No. 5 overall) - Ja'Marr Chase, WR, LSU: Strong case to be made here for an offensive tackle in the aftermath of the ACL injury that prematurely ended 2020 No. 1 pick Joe Burrow's rookie season. But apparently a more compelling case to reunite Burrow with his main weapon from LSU's 2019 title team, when Chase established himself as the best wideout in college football.
Round 3 (88, from Rams) - Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State: San Francisco adds more juice to a ground game currently headlined by Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. Sermon ripped off 7.4 yards per carry between 2019 and 2020 seasons split between the Sooners and Buckeyes. He'll probably need to put in some work to be on the field for passing downs.
Minnesota Vikings draft picks 2021: Round-by-round selections
Here is a 2021 NFL draft pick-by-pick breakdown for the Minnesota Vikings.Round 1 (No. 23 overall, from Seahawks through Jets) - Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech: The All-ACC selection should replace departed Riley Reiff on a line that allowed 39 sacks in 2020. And Minnesota picks up a pair of third-rounders from the Jets to move down nine spots.
Round 3 (102, compensatory)
Round 5 (155)
Round 5 (172, from Saints)
Round 5 (180, compensatory)
Round 6 (194)
San Francisco 49ers' last five top draft picks:
- 2020 (No. 14 overall): Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
- 2019 (No. 2 overall): Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State
- 2018 (No. 9 overall): Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
- 2017 (No. 3 overall): Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford
- 2016 (No. 7 overall): DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

Los Angeles Rams draft picks 2021: Round-by-round selections
Here is a 2021 NFL draft pick-by-pick breakdown for the Los Angeles Rams.Round 2 (No. 57 overall) - Tutu Atwell, WR, Louisville: Welcome to the draft, L.A., which gave up its first-rounder in the Jalen Ramsey deal. Atwell may only be 5-9 while hovering near 150 pounds, but his speed could bring another dimension to an offense that already added DeSean Jackson. An all-ACC selection in 2019 when he led the conference with 1,272 receiving yards, Atwell should use every ounce of QB Matthew Stafford's arm strength.
