How Lions' pick of Alim McNeill led to awkward moment in Eagles' draft room The Eagles traded down from No. 70 to 73 for a sixth-round pick, and missed out on North Carolina State's Alim McNeill, chosen by the Detroit Lions.Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said Tuesday in a Philadelphia radio interview that the Eagles had two defensive tackles in mind when they traded down from No. 70 to 73 for a sixth-round draft pick: Louisiana Tech's Milton Williams and North Carolina State's Alim McNeill.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Yegor Chinakhov (EE-Gohr Chihn-AH-Kawf) to a three-year entry level contract beginning in the 2020-21 season, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Chinakhov was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round , 21st overall, at the 2020 NHL Draft. Chinakhov , 20, made his Kontinental Hockey League debut this season and posted 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points with six penalty minutes, six power play goals and 60 shots on goal, while averaging 14:00 of ice time in 32 regular season games

Blue Jackets prospect Yegor Chinakhov ready to sign NHL deal, according to agent. The 20-year old forward was selected with the 21st pick in last year's draft, after he'd begun a breakout season as a KHL rookie. After winning a championship, he appears bound for North America. Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov delayed his arrival in Columbus to stay a couple extra years and develop in the KHL prior to playing his first NHL game in the second round of the 2019 playoffs. The Blue Jackets are still waiting to sign Russian forwards Kirill Marchenko (2018, second round ) and

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Yegor Chinakhov to a three-year entry level contract beginning in the  2020-21 season, GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced Sunday. Chinakhov was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round, 21st overall, at the 2020 NHL Draft.

After winning the Gagarin Cup earlier this week, Chinakhov had a decision to make whether to re-sign in the KHL and continue his career in Russia, or join the Blue Jackets who drafted him last fall. When his KHL contract expired, the decision was made, and Chinakhov is coming to North America according to his agent Shumi Babaev. The Blue Jackets have not released any details, but the 20-year-old forward will be limited to his three-year entry-level contract.

"I have no idea who Yegor Chinakhov who is." Those were the tweets Tuesday evening from The Hockey News' prospects guru Ryan Kennedy, and Sean Shapiro of The Athletic. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen and the Columbus Blue Jackets surprised everyone but themselves in Tuesday's first Chinakhov will not be on the Blue Jackets in the next two years, but rarely is that the case for players drafted out of the top 20. All indications are that Chinakhov has an extremely high ceiling as an offensive threat in the NHL, and given Kekalainen's history of discovering gems, this has the potential

Pick : 21. Team: Columbus Blue Jackets . Player: Yegor Chinakhov . Position: Right Wing. Amateur team: OMSK (RUSSIA). Look at previous first rounds too, so many nothings and a few plugs and then a star every so often. Picking the "best player" according to the tv dudes has no guarantee to pan out.

As Aaron Portzline of The Athletic tweets, it seems unlikely Chinakhov will be able to play before the end of this season because of the time it takes to secure a visa, but this is still a big step for the Blue Jackets as they look to turn the page on a disastrous campaign.

In 32 games for Avangard Omsk during the regular season, Chinakhov recorded 10 goals and 17 points. Add in another five goals and seven points in the postseason and you have quite the strong campaign for a player who only turned 20 in February and was playing at the KHL level for the first time. Near the end of the playoffs, he was logging substantial minutes on the championship squad, even eclipsing veteran names such as Ilya Kovalchuk and Sergey Tolchinsky at times (though an illness kept him out of the clinching game).

Future Watch: Redoing the 2020 NHL Draft

Future Watch: Redoing the 2020 NHL Draft Six months after the 2020 NHL draft, some prospect would be selected higher today. But the lack of action in development league has limited the amount of movement © Provided by Hockey News on Sports Illustrated Alexis Lafreniere (Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports) Anaheim, Carolina, Nashville and Pittsburgh are teams that made multiple bargain selections in the 2020 NHL draft according to scouts who evaluated prospects for The Hockey News Future Watch 2021 issue. Those four teams each had two picks who would have made moves upward were the 2020 to be held again today.

The Columbus Blue Jackets just had one of the biggest reaches in draft history, selecting a player that seemingly nobody, not even the draft experts, had even heard of before tonight. There’s reaching in the draft, and then there’s what the Columbus Blue Jackets just did with their first - round pick , reaching for a player that several draft experts didn’t even have in their top 100 heading into the draft. With the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Blue Jackets selected Yegor Chinakhov , a 19-year-old Russian right-winger.

I'm still a bit uncertain of the pick , but the kid clearly has a good shot and only 1 year remaining on his KHL contract. With Grigorenko coming over this year, Voronkov and potentially Chinakhov next year, and Marchenko the year after that, Columbus has a burgeoning Little Russia. We've also got Tyutin singing our praises basically every chance he gets, and it seems like his opinion might carry a decent amount of weight since Grigorinko specifically singled out Tyuts and Gavvy as guys he talked to before he signed . To be honest I think the Russians Don't Like It Here narrative is a little overblown?

Columbus has very few players actually signed for the 2021-22 campaign, meaning there could be plenty of opportunity in the organization should Chinakhov prove to be NHL ready. After such a disappointing season for Kekalainen’s team, change seems inevitable.
