Sports Rangers fans told to disperse amid Scottish title revelry
Extension for Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour still hasn't been signed
The fact that he is now sticking his neck out for the rest of the staff will only improve his reputation, even if it does make it a little more difficult to work out a new contract in Carolina. Of course, there is now an NHL team without a head coach, and it happens to be managed by former teammate and long-time Hurricanes colleague Ron Francis. The Seattle Kraken are taking their time deciding who will lead the team during their inaugural season and even though there has not been a direct connection yet to Brind’Amour, you can bet they would be one of the (many) teams keeping an eye on the situation in Carolina.
GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Police urged thousands of Rangers fans to disperse ahead of the Glasgow team collecting its first Scottish Premiership trophy in a decade on Saturday.
Fans set off blue and red flares when the team bus arrived at Ibrox stadium, where Rangers were to receive their trophy after beating Aberdeen 4-0 to complete an undefeated season.
“Supporters congregating should disperse, take personal responsibility and use Greater Glasgow safely & respectfully,”on Twitter.
Current coronavirus rules for Glasgow allow people to meet in groups of up to six outdoors.
New York Rangers abruptly dump team president, GM
The New York Rangers abruptly fired president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton on Wednesday with three games left in the season, a shocking move in the aftermath of the latest controversy for the storied NHL organization. Chris Drury was named president and GM. He previously served as associate GM under Davidson and Gorton. ”We want to thank JD and Jeff for their contributions to the organization,” owner James Dolan said in a statement. “They are both great hockey professionals who worked hard for the Rangers. However, in order for the team to succeed in the manner our fans deserve, there needs to be a change in leadership.
Rangers fans hadin March, when the team clinched the domestic title — its 55th — and dethroned Glasgow rival Celtic in the process.
Humza Yousaf, Scotland's justice secretary, also urged supporters to disperse.
“This is the key point — take personal responsibility,” he said on Twitter. “While there is a significant Police presence at Ibrox and across City, this is ultimately about personal responsibility. If you have gathered you should disperse, particularly given (yesterday's) announcement about Covid in Glasgow.”
One of the team's fan groups had planned a post-game march from near the stadium to George Square.
