Chad Johnson's boxing debut: Why former NFL star says fight is a 'one-time thing'
Chad Johnson has always dreamed of boxing. So why is the former NFL receiver only making it a one-time thing? As a part of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul undercard, either Johnson or Maxwell will get the first win of their respective boxing careers. Johnson hasn't fought to date while Maxwell sports an 0-3 record as a boxer, though he is 2-3 as an MMA fighter.
Sergio Mora has defended Jermall Charlo’s decision to fight Juan Macias Montiel.
The 27-year-old Mexican will fight for the WBC middleweight title on the 19 June against Charlo, and the current champion has attracted criticism for failing to make high profile fights.
Asked if Charlo was wasting his prime years, Mora said on JABS as part of the: “He might be wasting his time by fighting Juan Macia Montiel. He might be wasting our time that we have to watch that.
“We get in this business to become champions, make a lot of money doing it, and of course take on the best challenges, but we do it in that order.”
Mora suggested that Charlo was now focused on maintaining his career rather than cementing his legacy.
“It’s frustrating because there’s a lot of big fights at 160 and he’s fought six times, the only relevant names he’s fought are Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Matvey Korobov,” he conceded.
“At 154 though he was fighting some of the best. You can’t question his resume at 154, at 160 you want him to step up, but he’s prize fighting.”
