Where does one begin on a night like this when trying to put a soccer match into perspective that had a little bit of everything? There was the ridiculous amount of goals, including five by CF Montréal, porous defensive play by the home side and two-goal deficits it was able to overcome. Twice. On top of everything else, this electrifying and heart-stopping 5-4 victory against FC Cincinnati was produced at Saputo Stadium — the first time CFM has played on its actual home pitch since last Sept. 9 because of COVID-19 and the subsequent border restrictions that were presented. The team had played 28 consecutive matches away from the city, both Harrison, N.J.
MIAMI — CF Montreal saw its halftime lead slip away Saturday as it dropped a 2-1 decision to Inter Miami.
Joaquin Torres buried a shot in the 20th minute to put Montreal (6-6-4) up 1-0 in the first half.
But Miami star Gonzalo Higuain dominated after the break, scoring on a penalty kick in the 49th minute and adding a goal from open play in the 69th.
Montreal coach Wilfried Nancy wants his group to play better with the lead.
"Sometimes, it’s better not to perform a risky play for nothing when we can do a pass and eliminate many players," he said. "We created some chances and we could have scored to get a better lead earlier. We will keep working on that."
The Inter will not go to the United States

United on Sunday night before 14,169 spectators at Audi Field as it launched the second half of its regular season. The undermanned visitors have now gone five games without a win — including four defeats — and has fallen below the .500 mark, with a record of 6-7-5. CFM was coming off a 2-2 home draw last Wednesday against Atlanta United when it failed to protect a two-goal lead. Of the team’s seven losses, six have been by a goal.
